Penguins, Danton Heinen agree to one-year, $1M contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to keep members of the 2021-22 band together this summer.

Per an official media release, Penguins general manager Ron Hextall confirmed on Wednesday that the club has come to terms with forward Danton Heinen on a one-year contract worth $1 million.

Heinen originally joined the Penguins last summer and had a solid debut campaign with the organization. In total, he tallied 18 goals and 15 assists across 76 regular-season games and then added three goals during the opening-round playoff series loss to the New York Rangers. The 18 regular-season goals are a career-high for the 27-year-old.

Heinen previously featured for the Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks before his stint in Pittsburgh. Across 348 career regular-season contests, he's accumulated 62 goals with 92 assists, and he's added six goals and six assists in 40 career playoff games. Josh Yohe of The Athletic tweeted back on July 11 that Heinen was hoping to make "around $3 million" via a new contract but that clearly wasn't meant to be.

Along with Heinen, the Penguins have retained familiar faces such as Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, Kasperi Kapanen, Alex Nylander, Rickard Rakell and Casey DeSmith this offseason.
