Predators Beat Stars 5-1 in Season Finale

The Nashville Predators (30-44-8) beat the Dallas Stars (50-26-6) 5-1 on Wednesday night, in what was the final game of the regular season for both clubs.

Jordan Oesterle, Jakub Vrana, Justin Barron, Jonathan Marchessault, and Ryan O’Reilly scored for the Predators. Juuse Saros made 29 saves.

Mason Marchment scored the lone goal for the Stars. Jake Oettinger made 17 saves but was pulled for Casey DeSmith at the beginning of the third period. DeSmith made 12 saves in relief. With the loss, the Stars have now lost seven straight games heading into the playoffs.

Game Recap

Marchment opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the contest off a pass from Matt Duchene from behind the net. Tyler Seguin had the secondary assist, which was his first point since early December after being out with an injury.

Oesterle tied the game at 13:02 with a slap shot from the point that deflected off of Mavrik Bourque. Vrana would give the Predators the lead 49 seconds later with a tip-in at the crease.

With 15 seconds left in the first period, Barron scored his sixth goal of the season to give Nashville a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.

Just over six minutes into the second period, Marchessault jumped on a loose puck at the left post to score his 21st goal of the season and give the Predators a three-goal lead.

At 9:49, O’Reilly added to the blowout with a power-play goal into a wide-open cage on a tic-tac-toe passing play.

The Predators outshot the Stars 34-30 and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Stars went 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

A long off-season begins on Thursday for the Predators, while the Stars prepare for a Round 1 matchup against the Colorado Avalanche that begins on Saturday.
