William Zellers was born on April 4, 2006, in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The left-shot forward played for the Shattuck St. Mary’s 15U club during the 2021-22 season and collected 37 goals and 42 assists in 61 games. The next season, with the 18U Prep team, Zellers registered 19 goals and 30 assists in 37 games.
In the 2022 USHL Futures Draft, Zellers was chosen in the second round, 18th overall, by the Green Bay Gamblers. Zellers played one game during the 2022-23 season with Green Bay and scored a goal. During the 2023-24 season, he broke out with 57 goals and 54 assists in 54 games with Shattuck St. Mary’s.
With the 76th overall selection in the 2024 NHL Draft, the Colorado Avalanche chose Will Zellers. He has played the 2024-25 season with the Gamblers and set a franchise record by scoring his 44th goal of the season to go with 25 assists with four games to play.
On March 7, 2025, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward was traded to the Boston Bruins with a 2025 second-round draft pick and forward Casey Mittelstadt for forward Charlie Coyle and a 2026 sixth-round pick. Zellers is committed to playing at the University of North Dakota for next season.
