DENVER — Scott Wedgewood departed the Avalanche’s game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday after forward Zach Benson fell onto the goalie, causing an injury.
Wedgewood instantly went down in a ton of pain but the officials did not blow the whistle. The Sabres regained the puck and scored, making it 4-2 with Wedgewood lying on his backside inside Colorado’s net.

The Avalanche’s bench argued the call. Head coach Jared Bednar was visibly angry while arguing with the refs. Several of Colorado’s top players also had conversations with the officials. Eventually, Bednar challenged for goalie interference but was unsuccessful.
Mackenzie Blackwood came in and instantly had to kill a penalty.
