Speculation Grows Around Mike Sullivan's Future in Pittsburgh

Mike Sullivan has reiterated that he wants to remain with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but that hasn't stopped the speculation that he may be done after this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a third season, and after so much success early in his run, this has seemingly started to weigh on Head Coach Mike Sullivan.

After winning two Stanley Cup's back-to-back early in his tenure, many expected Sullivan to be around for a long, long time to come, and when he was recently asked about his future, he echoed prior sentiments that he's committed to the team and wants to be there long-term.

"I don't even think about it. I have incredible loyalty to this organization. I'm grateful for the opportunity to coach this team. It's been a privilege to coach this team, to be a part of this organization. I have a certain loyalty to all of the people who are a part of it here."

Fans however seem to be turning on Sullivan, as there are many examples on social media of them calling for his job despite winning them two Stanley Cups, as they are yet to go on a deep run for years.

The speculation that the team could move on from the veteran Head Coach continues as a recent article listed him as one of a few coaches that could be moved on by their teams at seasons end.

At this point in time, it's hard to see what GM Kyle Dubas is thinking, as the Head Coach remains committed to the team, but if the belief in the front office and the locker room is that another coach could get the best out of them, there's every chance that they may have a new coach behind the bench in 2025/26.
