Join us this summer as we count down the top 50 Vancouver Canucks players of all time! #5 – Quinn Hughes
For the moment, Quinn Hughes sits fifth on our list of Top 50 Canucks players of all time. It is conceivable, however, that before his career is done, the Orlando, FL native will rank as the greatest player to ever wear a Canucks uniform. That is simply the trajectory he is on. He is already the best defenceman the franchise has ever had, and he’s achieved that status after just six National Hockey League seasons.
The organization’s first Norris Trophy winner has rewritten the Canucks record book several times over for points in a season by a defenceman. While Doug Lidster’s previous mark of 63 points stood for 35 years, Hughes has eclipsed that total in each of his past four seasons, registering a career-high 92 points in 2023-24. That stands as the 12th-best single-season point total by a Canuck. The club’s current captain, Hughes shares the career franchise mark for points by a defenceman with Alex Edler. Both have 409 and sit tied for 14th overall in all-time scoring. Hughes will work his way into the top 10 at some point midway through the 2025-26 season.
An elite skater who challenges himself to improve each season, Hughes dazzles on a nightly basis. Despite missing 14 games due to injury in 2024-25, he still led the hockey club in scoring by a whopping 26 points. While the organization has had its share of first-round draft picks that failed to live up to expectations, Hughes falling to the Canucks at seventh overall in the 2018 Draft will always stand as a shining – and rare – example of the hockey gods smiling on the franchise.
Quinn Hughes has already been so much more than the Canucks could have hoped when they added him to the fold. And, in a relatively short period of time, has certainly earned his place in the Top 5 on the list of best players the Canucks have ever had.
