Who's trending up, down ahead of men's conference tournaments?

Basketball bliss has arrived as college basketball conference tournaments are in full swing, kicking off an action-packed postseason that culminates with the national championship April 7 in San Antonio, Texas.

As men's Power 5 conference tournaments begin, here are the teams trending up and others that are trending down entering the postseason.

Trending up

Duke | 28-3, 19-1 ACC

The Blue Devils aren't just winning, they're dominating. Since a 77-71 loss at Clemson on Feb. 8, Duke has won by an average of 29.5 points in its last eight games. Cooper Flagg deservingly gets most of the headlines, but fellow freshman Kon Knueppel has been lights out during the win streak. He's shot 45 percent from three.

St. John's | 27-4, 18-2 Big East

Under head coach Rick Pitino, St. John's has become the hit team of the season. The Johnnies are up to No. 6 in the AP poll and have won six games in a row. St. John's is 4-0 against ranked teams since February and is limiting opponents to 66 points per game this season.

Michigan State | 26-5, 17-3 Big Ten

Death, taxes, Tom Izzo in March. The Spartans hit a bump in the road in early February, losing three of four games. They've responded with an impressive seven-game winning streak that includes five wins over ranked foes. It's led to Izzo's 11th Big Ten title.

Houston | 27-4, 19-1 Big 12

Houston has won 10 games in a row since an 82-81 loss in overtime to Texas Tech on Feb. 1. The Cougars have doubled down on defense since that loss, not allowing an opponent to score more than 65 points during the streak. Six of those wins came against teams ranked in the top half of the Big 12 in scoring.

Trending down

Missouri | 21-10, 10-8 SEC

No team is able to make it through the gauntlet of the SEC unscathed. Mizzou owns three wins over top five teams, but it has lost four of its last five with three of the losses coming to unranked opponents. Offense isn't the issue — the Tigers have scored at least 83 points in the four losses, but have allowed 94 points.

Marquette | 22-9, 13-7 Big East

Marquette has lost six of 10 to end the regular season. It's hard to pinpoint the issue — the six losses have come by an average of seven points per game. Kam Jones (18.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists per game) continues to deliver, but is he enough to lift the Golden Eagles?

Wisconsin | 23-8, 13-7 Big Ten

Is the Badgers offense fading at the wrong time? Wisconsin averages 80 points per game, but has failed to reach 80 in four of the last five games. Wisconsin is 2-3 in that stretch. Conversely, the Badgers allow 70 points per game but have held just one opponent below that mark in the last five.

Purdue | 21-10, 13-7 Big Ten

The Boilers are struggling, finishing the regular season losing five of the last seven. During that stretch, Purdue is guarding the three fine with opponents shooting 32 percent, but it's getting carved up from two-point territory. Opponents are shooting an astonishing 64 percent. That's up from 53 percent the previous 24 games.
