Joey Bosa news is huge win for everybody involved

There were not many big-name free agents still lurking around on Tuesday evening, but the Buffalo Bills managed to snag one of the biggest remaining.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Bills agreed to terms with Joey Bosa on a one-year deal that will pay him $12.6 million guaranteed that could potentially increase to $15.6 million. According to The Athletic's Michael Silver, the Bills were the only interested team to offer Bosa more than $10 million.

The Miami Dolphins, who were desperate for defensive help, and the San Francisco 49ers, who wanted to pair him up with his brother Nick Bosa, both came in far short of that number on their offers.

While the Bills went above and beyond everybody else to secure Joey Bosa, it is an incredibly smart deal for the team — and for Bosa.

It is the type of free-agency match that just makes a ton of sense for everybody involved.

From the Bills' side, if Bosa is healthy, he brings them another impact pass-rusher on their defensive line and the type of player who could help put them over the top. Even at $12.6 million, he is also a slightly cheaper option than what Von Miller was going to be before they released him.

The "if healthy" is the big wild-card here, however.

Injuries have limited Bosa in each of the past three seasons as he has played just 28 games over that stretch. But he showed in 2024 that he can still be a disruptive force when he is out there.

It's a win for Bosa because he not only gets a nice payday after three straight injury-shortened seasons, but he also gets to play for a team that should be a top Super Bowl contender. Bosa played in only four playoff games during his nine-year career with the Chargers, winning just one of them. Now he gets to play for a Buffalo team that will be one of the biggest favorites in the AFC, with a chance to play a big impact on that team.

The Bills are getting what they want and need.

Bosa is getting an opportunity.

Everybody wins.

Except, of course, for other AFC contenders that might have to deal with a healthy Bosa coming off the edge of Buffalo's defensive line.
