It was a heartbreaking Sunday for the LSU football community, as former Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead late Saturday night.
Lacy began his college career at Louisiana, playing two seasons there before transferring to LSU in 2022. He spent the next three years with the Tigers, and this past season posted 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.
The 24-year-old was facing legal trouble from a Dec. 17 incident in which he was accused of causing a crash that led to the death of a 78-year-old man. Authorities said Lacy fled the scene and was later charged with negligent homicide, reckless vehicle operation and felony hit-and-run resulting in death.
His own death came just one day before he was set to stand before a grand jury.
Former LSU star and current NFL free agent Odell Beckham Jr. was among the many thinking of Lacy on Sunday morning. He took to social media and made two posts.
"Rest easy lil bro ️," he wrote in his first one.
In the second post, Beckham Jr. shared a photo of himself and Lacy in the LSU locker room.
"️," he captioned it.
Before the incident on Dec. 17, Lacy was widely projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. He participated in LSU's Pro Day on March 26 and ran a 4.50 40-yard dash and recorded a 36-inch vertical jump.
