Word of MiLaysia Fulwiley's departure from the Gamecocks first began circulating after Ta'Niya Latson announced her transfer commitment to South Carolina. And when Fulwiley shared a heartfelt goodbye to her Gamecocks family on April 17, Latson had one short message in response.
Fulwiley posted a note saying goodbye on her Instagram account. Latson replied with a short and sweet message: three red heart emojis.
While Fulwiley has not replied as of the time of this article's publication, one fan did respond, writing: "I know you gonna ball out at South Carolina just wish Fulwiley would have been part of the team as also."
Tehina Paopoa also replied to Fulwiley's goodbye message, writing, "go be great 12skiiii."
Fulwiley's message on Instagram read: "I want to begin by thanking my hometown of Columbia, SC. Without my village, I wouldn't be where I am today, chasing my dreams. Thank you to Coach Staley, the entire South Carolina staff, and my teammates for the unforgettable memories we've created together. Most importantly. Thank you to the FAMS for embracing me and supporting me over the past two years. After thoughtful consideration, I've decided to enter the transfer portal. I'm excited for what's next and grateful for all the continued love and support."
As Athlon Sports reported, Gamecocks fans were worried Fulwiley would leave once they heard her tearful interview after South Carolina's loss to UConn. Their concerns became reality when sources told Greenville Online anonymously that she was preparing to leave. Fulwiley confirmed the rumors with her goodbye message on April 17.
