Architect of the Warriors dynasty linked to potential NBA return

Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers is once again being linked to a return to an NBA front office, with one team in particular said to be very interested.

Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line wrote Wednesday (h/t HoopsHype) that the Phoenix Suns would love to lure Myers back to the league as their top executive. Suns owner Mat Ishbia is said to have a longstanding interest in trying to lure Myers back to work. However, there is a belief around the league that those efforts will not be successful.

Myers has also been mentioned as a potential target for the Atlanta Hawks. However, it is seen as unlikely that any team would be able to tempt Myers away from the West Coast. The two-time Executive of the Year Myers, of course, is widely known as the architect of the Warriors dynasty, having won four championships during his time at the helm.

Myers running the Suns would certainly be intriguing. For one thing, he might immediately be tasked with trying to trade Kevin Durant, whom he acquired while running the Warriors. He would be charged with cleaning up the Suns’ mess, having just missed the playoffs despite having Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal on the roster.

James Jones is currently the president and general manager of the Suns, so presumably there would be major changes made within the organization if they were able to lure Myers.

After working as the Warriors’ GM since 2012, Myers stepped down in 2023 and has since worked as an ESPN analyst. It is unclear how interested he would be in a return to NBA executive work, though this is not the first time he has been linked to such a position.
