The son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jax Ulbrich has taken responsibility for the prank that was played on Shedeur Sanders during the NFL Draft, and we now how he obtained the phone number.

Ulbrich’s son, Jax Ulbrich, issued a statement via social media on Sunday apologizing for calling Sanders during the second round of the draft and posing as an NFL general manager. Jax said he spoke with Sanders earlier in the day and thanked the former Colorado quarterback for taking his call.

The Falcons also issued a statement addressing the situation. They revealed that Jax “unintentionally came across the draft contact number for Shedeur Sanders off an open iPad while while visiting his parent’s home and wrote the number down to later conduct a prank call.” The team also said Jeff Ulbrich was “unaware of the data exposure or any facets of the prank and was made aware of the above only after the fact.”

“The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send out sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facilitate an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family,” the team wrote.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that the Falcons will not take disciplinary action against Jeff over the incident.

Sanders was streaming live on Twitch during the second round of the draft on Friday when he received a phone call from a person claiming to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. Sanders, who was eventually drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round, knew something about the call was off. It became obvious it was a prank when the Saints drafted former Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough. You can  see the video here.

A video of the person on the other end of the call then went viral on social media, and people pieced together that Ulbrich’s son may have been involved. It looks like Jax gave the number to a friend, who made the actual call to Sanders.

The phone number that was called was only given to NFL teams for use during the draft, so it was initially unclear how someone would have obtained it.

Ulbrich was hired as the defensive coordinator of the Falcons this offseason after previously serving in the same role with the New York Jets for four years. He became the interim head coach of the Jets last year after Robert Saleh was fired.
