Racing Fans Guide to the 2024 Belmont Stakes
© Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Belmont Stakes is going to look a little different this year.  No, actually it's going to look a lot different.  It's not even in the same place.

The final leg of the Triple Crown of racing will be run Saturday, June 8 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York.  The normal home of the Belmont is Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.  The race had to be relocated this year because Belmont Park is undergoing a $455 million renovation.

That's not the only change.  Usually the Belmont is the longest of the Triple Crown races, but this year's Belmont Stakes will be shorter than usual, contested at 1 1/4 miles (the same as the Kentucky Derby)  instead of the traditional 1 1/2 miles. The event is part of the four-day Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, which includes 23 stakes races with total purses of over $10 million.

One more change for the year is the purse.  The field of 10 horses will be running for a $2 million purse which is an increase from the $1.5 million in 2023.

Here is your listing of the horses, trainers, jockeys and morning line odds.

  1. Seize the Grey D. Wayne Lukas, Jaime Torres, 8-1. Winner of the 2024 Preakness Stakes, this horse has a favorable post position which has historically performed well at Belmont, even with the change of location, this should be a good starting position for Seize the Grey.
  2. Resilience Bill Mott, Junior Alvarado, 10-1. Known for his stamina and steady performances, Resilience is expected to be a solid contender.
  3. Mystik Dan Kenny McPeek, Brian Hernandez Jr, 5-1. The 2024 Kentucky Derby winner and runner-up at the Preakness Stakes, Mystik Dan is one of the top favorites for the Belmont Stakes, and for good reason.
  4. The Wine Steward Mike Maker, Manny Franco 15-1. This New York-bred colt is tenacious, though he typically races shorter distances. The Belmont will be a challenging step up in distance.
  5. Antiquarian Todd Pletcher, John Velazquez, 12-1. After a win in the Peter Pan Stakes, Antiquarian is on an upward trajectory and aims to maintain his momentum.
  6. Dornoch Danny Gargan, Luis Suez, 15-1. Despite a lackluster performance in recent major races, Dornoch’s early career successes make him a horse to watch.
  7. Protective Todd Pletcher, Tyler Gaffalione, 20-1. A less favored entrant, but with the potential for an upset if conditions favor his racing style.
  8. Honor Marie Whit Beckman, Florent Group, 12-1. A deep closer who had a rough trip in the Kentucky Derby, Honor Marie is expected to bounce back with a strong performance.
  9. Sierra Leone Chad Brown, Flavien Prat, 9-5. The morning-line favorite, Sierra Leone narrowly missed winning the Kentucky Derby and is highly anticipated to perform well.
  10. Mindframe Todd Pletcher, Irad Ortiz Jr, 7-2. This promising colt has been impressive in his recent starts and could make a significant impact in his stakes debut at the Belmont.

If you choose to bet, please do so responsibly.  Good luck.  Post time is 6:41 p.m. ET, Saturday, June 8. The race will be broadcast on FOX TV and live-streamed on the FOX Sports app.
