Killington to Retire Iconic Superstar Chairlift With Party

The Superstar Express Quad at Killington Resort, Vermont is iconic.

The lift was built in 1985 and has carried millions of skiers in its 38 years of operation. From multiple World Cup events to late-season spring laps in May and June, the Superstar Express has been there through it all.

Killington announced earlier this season, as part of a new ownership group's reign, that it would replace the aging chairlift with a new six-person high speed lift from Doppelmayr this upcoming summer. The construction will prevent the lift from spinning late this spring, and has caused the resort to press pause on the Killington Cup this November.

Today, April 3, 2025, Killington has revealed the final day of operations for Superstar, and the resort is throwing a party to celebrate the lift's historic run.

Superstar's last hoorah will take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025. The resort will have live music, beverages, and giveaways to celebrate the occasion.

To make the day even more exciting, Killington is encouraging skiers to log 87 laps on Superstar this season to earn the 'Superstar Legacy ‘87' achievement on the resort's app. Skiers who accomplish the goal before Superstar's last day will be entered for a chance to take the last chair at 5:00 p.m.

Chairlifts are machines, but it's easy to develop a sentimental attachment to them as they're responsible for bringing so much joy into our lives.

We all have our favorite chairlifts, and if Superstar is yours, go soak up every last minute with the lift before it's too late. It will be fun to ride the big shiny new six-person lift next season, but once the original Superstar Express is gone, it's gone.
