This is not a drill, we repeat, this is not a drill! Lake Tahoe's Winter '24/'25 ski season will once again kick-off at Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, Nevada. Mt. Rose will open on Friday, November 8, 2024, and remain open seven days a week throughout the duration of the season.

Similar to last season's opening, Mt. Rose has covered a handful of runs accessible by The Lakeview Express with snowmaking efforts. Mother Nature has helped out a little bit with a few inches of natural snowfall as well.

Here's the breakdown of Rose's planed open lifts and terrain for opening day:

Lifts: Lakeview Express, Magic Conveyor
Runs: Kit Carson Traverse, Kit Carson Bowl, Ponderosa, and Show-Off (Bunny Slope)

Mt. Rose won't have a massive offering on opening day, but skiers and riders considering a visit should note that the Lakeview Express serves roughly 1,000 feet of vertical.

The Ponderosa trail is a long and slow traverse to get back to the lift, but Kit Carson Bowl offers a quite satisfactory experience for the first day of the season. The pitch is sustained and makes good use of the 1,000 feet of vert.

Skiers and riders longing to ride their favorite trails at Rose shouldn't have to wait too long. The ski area confirmed that snowmaking will remain active across the mountain, and that they, "expect to open more terrain quickly." It's expected to snow up to five inches at Mt. Rose early next week, according to OpenSnow.

“We’re thrilled to kick off our 60th season with another early November opening, and to welcome our guests back with 1,000 vertical feet of skiing and riding from day one,” said Mike Pierce, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe marketing and sales director. “Ahead of the season, we reinvested more than $2.2 million in the resort experience, including snowmaking system enhancements, trail improvements, and a new snowcat to support our ability to offer a high-quality snow surface all season long.”

Mt. Rose is typically the first ski area in the Tahoe region to open due to its high base elevation. With the ski area's base resting at 8,260 feet above sea level, Rose benefits from colder temperatures when compared to other Tahoe locales. For context, Palisades Tahoe's Olympic Valley Village sits at roughly 6,200 feet above sea level.

I visited Rose for Opening Day 2023, and I plan to be back for this year's season kick-off. I really hope the dinosaur-costume clad, ukulele-playing snowboarder is back. Speaking with him was one of the highlights of my entire season!

Winter '24/'25 is here ladies and gentlemen. Who else is fired up?!
