Blue Mountain, known for being Pennsylvania's largest ski resort by most metrics, isn't giving up on Winter 24/25 without a fight.

While most ski areas in the region have closed up shop, Blue is keeping the party going through April 6, 2025, at the earliest, if conditions allow.

"There are some resorts in the area that are packing it in. I can guarantee you here at Blue Mountain we are not," said Nick Delich from the resort's Mountain Ops team in a recent social media video.

Temperatures are expected to spike this upcoming weekend, but Blue took advantage of a rare snowmaking opportunity back on March 23, 2025 to prepare for it. "You didn’t think we were done, did you?! Our team saw last nights wet bulb temp and took full advantage to extend your season!," wrote Blue Mountain.

Why would a ski resort spend money to make snow at the end of the season?

That's a question for Blue Mountain's owners and management team, but the message it's sending to skiers and snowboarders in the region is clear— Blue is dedicated to keeping folks sliding on snow for as long as possible. It's a sentiment that is being celebrated by thousands of skiers across the region.

Blue isn't open for daily operations this late in the year, no surprise there, but intends to reopen Friday, March 28 through Sunday, March 30th. The resort's annual pond skim event will take place on Saturday, March 29th.

Blue's pond skim typically signifies the end of the season, but that won't be the case this year. The resort has clearly stated that this weekend will not be the final week of the ski season.

According to a social media post, Blue intends to reopen for skiing on Saturday, April 5th and Sunday, April 6th. Blue has not officially stated if this will be the resort's closing weekend or not. Presumably, the resort will reopen the following weekend if conditions allow.

Kudos to Blue Mountain for keeping the vibe alive. It's one of the first resorts I skied as a child, and I take pride in their tenacity to keep sticking it to Mother Nature.

I'm smiling from the Sierra Nevada as I imagine the fun my fellow Pennsylvanian's will have over the next two weeks. Soak up that sun, throw on the spring wax, and enjoy the last tastes of winter while you can.
