It’s no secret that ski town lodging can be super expensive and make ski vacations prohibitive for a lot of folks.
Luckily, a lot of ski towns these days have hostel-style options that are much cheaper than your run-of-the-mill resort hotel, and they're usually pretty close to the mountain as well. If you’re not scared away by bunk room lodging (although most have private rooms as well!), these hostels are a great way to save a buck, or $200+, when visiting a ski town.
Maybe hanging out with lifties and ski bums at the Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole before walking just a few feet back to the Hostel tickles your fancy? Or finding an up-and-coming pro skier in an adjacent pod while pow hunting in Whistler is how you want to spend that valuable PTO.
Either way, with these more affordable options, now you can take the ski vacation you've been dreaming of to some of the best destinations in the world.
An iconic spot in ski bum lore, the Hostel, located at the base of Jackson Hole and conveniently underneath the Mangy Moose, provides one of the only affordable lodging options in the Jackson Hole area.
It has both bunk rooms and private rooms available, starting at $32 per night. The Hostel has been known to house JHMR lifties for entire seasons, and legend has it that if you hang out there during a TGR premiere in September, there’s a 99% chance you’ll come away with a wild story.
Just a few minutes from the massive Park City Resort, you can stay at the Park City Hostel for just $33 a night. We know, a steal for Park City.
The hostel is close to most of the valley’s public transit to the mountain and also runs weekly trips to nearby Snowbasin. The hostel has both bunk and private rooms, as well as common areas and ample gear storage for all your ski vacation needs.
Just 20 minutes from Taos Ski Village, in the neighboring town of Arroyo Seco, is The SnowMansion.
Bunk rooms and private rooms are both available starting at $38 a night. The hostel is also only 20 minutes from the town of Taos so you can check out all that the town has to offer for dining, art galleries, and historic buildings.
The SnowMansion is a particularly good deal for pet owners, as well. For just $30 extra a day, the staff will walk your dog and make sure they have water while you ski.
About 10 minutes from both Beaver Creek and Vail in the little town of Minturn, Colorado is the Vail Bunkhouse. Although a little more expensive than some others on the list at $52 a night, the Bunkhouse has pod-like beds where a wall covers about two-thirds of the bed, and a curtain covers the rest for more privacy.
The Bunkhouse also has 6-bed and 4-bed rooms that can convert into two bunks and a king-size bed—both great options for groups who want to rent their own rooms.
Centrally located in Whistler Village, the Pangea Pod hostel has eight separate rooms with one and two-person pods. The pods have full-size beds that fit two adults and lockable luggage storage as well as space to keep skis and bikes.
A women’s-only pod room is also available. Rooms start at $43/night. T hostel has a rooftop patio and on-site restaurant to enhance your Whistler experience. Also, according to their website, if you book directly through them, you get a free cocktail too. Now that's a deal.
