Women’s-specific ski gear has come a long way since the days of male-dominated marketing teams dictating a “shrink it and pink it” strategy. These days, everything from apparel to accessories to skis and boots themselves has evolved to specifically cater to the needs of women skiers. This year, we curated a list of some of the favorite things our women testers at POWDER put through the paces. There’s everything from base layers to skincare, our favorite women’s all-mountain ski, to ways to make your boots perform better while somehow also being warmer and more comfortable.

Stuck on what to get the women in your life as a holiday gift? Or maybe you’re just looking to treat yourself this season? Here’s what our testers found this year–we’re convinced there’s something in here for everyone.

Artilect Flatiron Bottoms - Women's

Staying cozy throughout the ski day (and into the après hours) can be hard work, but Artilect’s Flatiron base layer bottoms do the trick and then some. These use a new type of merino wool material called Nuyarn, engineered to add durability, increase breathability, and feel even softer and more comfortable on your skin. Like standard Merino, the material is antimicrobial and meant to be worn multiple days in a row between washes, making these great for extended ski trips. Ski hard all day and lounge around all night in the supremely cozy Flatiron Bottom from Artilect.

Le Bent Feathertop Hoodie - Women's

We’re firm believers that sun hoodies are by far the more versatile base layer option–wear them as a skiing base layer for the resort or for high-output backcountry days, as a running top, on a sunny desert camping trip, or to the gym or a yoga class. The sky’s the limit. Le Bent takes the classic sun hoodie and elevates it a notch, taking advantage of their super soft and supple merino wool material for the Le Bent Feathertop Hoodie.

Like Artilect’s Flatiron Bottoms, this ultralight garment uses Nuyarn merino–and we’re convinced this is the perfect use case for the material. It’s far more breathable and dries quicker than any other base layer we’ve tried, plus it’s simply really soft and comfortable.

Nation Botanics Surf+Slope Skincare

Let’s face it, your skin gets trashed during long winters doing what you love in the mountains. Whether it’s blistering winds whipping snow into your face or the unrelenting sun that’s burning in that goggle tan, your skin can use all the help it can get to stay healthy.

Nation Botanics, a small company founded by an on-the-go Wyoming skier and surfer, specializes in skincare products designed specifically with skiers, snowboarders and surfers in mind. Thinking beyond basic SPF sun protection, the Surf+Slope Moisturizer and Serum from Nation Botanics has you covered all winter long with traceable plant-based ingredients. These come in travel-friendly TSA-approved containers, so bring them on your next ski trip.

Atomic Maven 103 CTi Skis

Of all the women’s skis we tested this year, Atomic’s Maven 103 CTi was resoundingly our tester’s favorite as an extremely versatile all-mountain ski. In other words, it’s ridiculously easy to ski, with testers comparing it to having a built-in autopilot. At 103mm underfoot with a playful and poppy flex profile, it’s a surefire bet for fun in just about any conditions, from hardpack groomers to crud to resort powder skiing.

“This ski was awesome! I had a blast skiing in all conditions, keeping me afloat in some deep pow and charging through crud and ice with ease,” shared one tester. “These skis are very forgiving with a playful flex that makes them super fun on side hits and rollers.”

Intuition Ski Boot Liners

In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, most stock liners that come with ski boots aren’t going to give you the most comfortable fit and highest performance. That’s where custom boot liners like Intuition’s come in. Long seen as the gold standard by bootfitters (and skiers who care about their feet), these premium liners use a special heat-moldable foam that perfectly shapes both to your foot and your boot shell. The difference in comfort and performance is astounding.

As a plus, the higher-density foam used by Intuition is much warmer than standard boot foam. Depending on the type of fit and level of performance you’re looking for, Intuition offers multiple options, from tongue-style liners to plug-boot liners to wrap liners. It’s easy to DIY mold these at home, but if you’re unsure, take them to a bootfitter and have a pro help you out.

Line Skis Après Bootie

Sometimes, the best part of the ski day is taking your boots off at 4 pm. The only thing better than that feeling of sweet release is sliding your feet into a pair of Line’s Après Booties. These super-cozy and warm slippers give your feet a chance to relax during your ride home. With a cinch cord and collapsible heel pocket, you can wear them either as a shoe or a classic slipper, and the treaded rubber non-slip sole makes walking around icy parking lots a breeze. Sure, the graphics might be loud, but who cares when your feet feel this good?

Smartwool All-Season Merino 1/4 Zip - Women's

Looking for an extra-warm but breathable layer to wear on those particularly cold days when you just want to ski lap after lap of powder? Smartwool’s ¼ Zip base layer has you covered with stretchy and super-comfortable merino wool. The slim, shaped fit layers well underneath a puffy and a shell for unrestricted movement. Wear in on the mountain, at après, or for casual jaunts around town on a rest day.

Patagonia Fitz Roy Puffy - Women’s

If there’s someone who knows a thing or two about staying warm in extreme cold, it’s winter alpine climbers and mountaineers. That’s who Patagonia designed the women’s Fitz Roy down jacket for–but it turns out it’s the perfect jacket for backcountry and resort skiers looking for a versatile, super warm, and extremely packable down puffy jacket.

Named after the Andean peak highlighted in Patagonia’s iconic logo, the Fitz Roy uses responsibly sourced 800-fill down, a PFAS-free water-resistant outer material, and a super-simple but effective pocket layout. The jacket weighs less than a pound and packs down to the size of a small water bottle. It’s perfect as an extra layer for backcountry skiing, a midlayer for frigid resort days, or just for walking around town on a cold winter evening.

Smith Method Pro MIPS Helmet

New for 2025, Smith’s Method Pro MIPS is a freeride helmet that offers the highest levels of protection in a low-profile minimalist look. The helmet takes advantage of Smith’s Koroyd honeycomb construction and ultralight in-mold EPS foam construction for protection.

With plenty of venting and a slightly larger-than-stated fit, the Method Pro is the perfect option to wear with a beanie or hat underneath and is equally at home in the resort or in the backcountry. Depending on your personal preference, goggles can comfortably go over or under the helmet. The magnetic chin strap buckle is a nice touch, making for fuss-free clipping especially when wearing gloves.

Therm-c S.E.T. Performance Heated Socks

Give the gift of warmth with a pair of Therm-Ic’s S.E.T. Performance heated ski socks. Powered by small rechargeable batteries, these socks can deliver up to nine hours of warmth to your feet. The socks themselves are made of super-thin merino wool, fit the same as standard mid-weight ski socks, and have a heating filament that runs around your toes and along your entire foot, delivering warmth without compromising fit inside your ski boot.

The batteries can even be controlled via Bluetooth on your smartphone, allowing you to dial in the level of warmth to your preference. We think that heated socks have a huge advantage over boot heaters–you can wear them in your boots, apres shoes, or even just around the house on cold mornings.
