One ski area that straddles the Montana-Idaho border is giving visitors a chance to ride for the price of some pocket change.

Lookout Pass is offering 90-cent lift tickets in honor of its 90th season. That’s nine dimes, 18 nickels, 90 pennies, or any combination of the three, for those of you unfamiliar with using physical currency.

The day will help celebrate the end of the season. Free cupcakes and limited edition swag will be given out at 11 a.m. in the lodge, and the ski golf course will be available to be played starting at noon. There are nine holes built across select runs on the mountain, and foam golf balls will be provided, but make sure to bring your own 9-iron.

Lookout averages more than 450 inches of snowfall a year and has 54 named runs over 1,023 skiable acres. The summit elevation is 6,150 feet, and it has a vertical drop of 1,650 feet. The longest run is 1.5 miles long. It’s located about 90 minutes from Missoula, Montana.

Interestingly enough, it is possible to cross two time zones in the same run at Ski Lookout. The resort made headlines when it bumped up its opening day after a massive storm dropped several feet of snow on the mountain.

The ski area got its start in 1935 when a rope tow made out of the engine of an abandoned car was installed. The ski area is still independently owned, and lift ticket prices hover around $70 a day for adults.

Closing day will be on April 20, when an Easter egg hunt will also commence. As of April 15, 2025, there are 47 open trails, 26 of which are groomed. Four of the five lifts are spinning: Peak 1 Quad, Timberwolf Triple, Success Triple, and Eagle Peak Quad.

The summit of the mountain has a snow depth of 89”, while the base has a base of 58”.
