The World Quarterpipe Championships are back at Mammoth Mountain.

The contest will go down on Friday, April 25, 2025. The quarterpipe is set up at Stump Alley, next to The Mill. Riders will go up against a 28-foot quarterpipe, a feature that Mammoth has dubbed the “largest pipe wall anywhere.”

The event is sponsored by Slush The Magazine, Mammoth Mountain, Skullcandy, Ikon Pass, Yeti, Sun Bum, and Nixon.

Here’s the full schedule for the event day:
10 a.m. – noon Practice
1 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. Semi-Finals
3 p.m. – 4 p.m. Finals
4 p.m. Awards at the base of the quarterpipe

Slush and Yeti have teamed up to hand out the “Who Did It Cooler?” Award for the best McTwist for men and women respectively. Not only will the winner walk away with the prestigious award but also a paycheck of $2,000.

There will also be an award for the best handplant, supported by Death Grip Glove Company.

The contest was born as an anti-contest. It was started in 1998 by Pat Bridges and Mark Sullivan and gained popularity because of its ability to not take itself too seriously.

It was a chaotic scene, Snowboarder Magazine alumna Mary T. Walsh wrote, and in the early 2000s, resort risk management teams decided to take a break. Then, it was resurrected in 2008, and shortly after, it went away again. Slush brought the contest back in 2021.

Close to 100 snowboarders were present for the 2024 contest, including riders like Bode Merrill, Kennedi Deck, Judd Henkes, and Darra Reid-McLean. Ellie Weiler and Valentino Guseli took home the top spots last year. Raibu Katayama and Shannon Dunn won the Nixon “Best Time” Award.

This year’s lineup has not yet been announced, though YES Snowboards did hint that several of its team riders would be there, which allows for some pretty fun scenarios if you’re willing to use your imagination.

While there are some pretty big names that have repeatedly shown up to compete for a $4,000 prize purse, the event has evolved into a stage for up-and-comers to make a splash, as Slush’s Stanley Leveille points out in a recent story.
