2024 Chicago Fire in Review: Chase Gasper

The Chicago Fire’s left backs dealt with horrible injury luck in 2024 and Chase Gasper wasn’t spared from missing major time throughout his first season with the club.

Gasper, 28, was acquired by Chicago in January from the Houston Dynamo for only a single draft pick. It was a smart move in terms of MLS dollars as Gasper occupied a supplemental roster spot in 2024 as Houston and the LA Galaxy were paying portions of his salary.

The left back initially suffered a leg injury in the Fire’s 1-1 draw at New England in March and dealt with a setback during his rehab process that kept him out the remainder of the season after the initial belief was that Gasper would be able to return at some point in the summer.

Gasper finished 2024 with 240 minutes played over four appearances and two starts. He collected the most touches for the Fire in Chicago’s loss at Columbus in March while tying Fabian Herbers with a team-high three interceptions.

Gasper is under contract with the Fire for the 2025 MLS season and remains a helpful left-footed option in a defensive role, something Chicago doesn’t have in volume now that Rafael Czichos and Ariel Lassiter have departed the club. If healthy, Gasper could be a very nice player under new coach Gregg Berhalter in 2025.
