The Chicago Fire Academy has produced another Homegrown signing for the first team.
Chicago has reportedly signed center back Christopher Cupps to a Homegrown deal ahead of the 2025 MLS season, according to a report from Tom Bogert.
Cupps, 16, has been a standout for a few years now with the Fire Academy and became a mainstay in Chicago Fire II’s backline in 2024. The center back was with the first team during the first portion of their preseason camp in Florida but has been with the USYMNT U17s in recent weeks.
Cupps is an incredibly high-upside prospect who could feature for the first team in 2025 depending on how things play out with their new-look center back room.
With veterans at the position like Jack Elliott, Omar González, and Carlos Terán operating as starters early on, Cupps can ease his way into the first team in 2025 while still featuring regularly in MLS Next Pro.
He is a prospect to keep an eye out for long-term on the international level and in Major League Soccer.
