Dunfermline appointment sets up Lenny v Broony clash

Neil Lennon appointed Dunfermline boss 

Best of luck to Celtic legend Neil Lennon who has agreed to take charge of Championship side Dunfermline Athletic until the end of the season. The Pars are struggling at the wrong end of the table and the Fife side’s new owners believe Lenny is the man to keep them in the championship.

Neil Lennon’s first game in charge of Dunfermline happens to be a trip to take on promotion chasing Ayr United, who are managed by none other than fellow hoops legend Scott Brown.

First up it’s Lenny v Broony

Broony was once upon a time a vital player under Neil Lennon during the Irishman’s two separate spells in charge at Celtic. Together they helped the club to a trove of honours, and both are firmly ingrained as vital figures in the club’s illustrious unbroken history.

Both will put any feelings of friendship and nostalgia firmly behind them as they prepare for a different kind of challenge when their teams meet at Somerset Park in seven days time.

Both of these Celtic men are born winners, so it’s sure going to be an interesting battle between their respective sides. One that more than a few Celtic supporters will be keeping a keen eye on, myself included.

Neil Lennon has seven games to get Dunfermline to safety with Hamilton Accies being the side in his sights as they are just one point ahead of the Pars in third bottom spot. Lenny has agreed a short term deal with a sizeable bonus payment for retaining the club’s Championship status and there’s also an option of a permanent deal on the table of things go well.

Neil Lennon told the official Dunfermline Athletic website: “I’m very excited about the prospect of joining Dunfermline Athletic Football Club.

“Once I spoke to James Bord he put across a very compelling proposition on his ambitions for the club. However, short term our aim is obviously to be in the Championship next season.

“We want to play football on the front foot”

“Having watched the match against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup it’s clear there’s talent in the squad, perhaps just a little low on confidence at the minute. What we want to do is bring an energy, confidence and an exciting brand of football. It may not happen instantly but we want to play on the front foot, excite supporters and get the players believing in what we’re doing. ”
