Former Inter and Barcelona winger Figo will support the Nerazzurri against the Blaugrana in the Champions League semifinal, but feels PSG are the favourite to lift the trophy this season.
The former Portugal international spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the upcoming Champions League semifinal between the Serie A giants and Barcelona.
“It’s too hard to identify a favourite in a Champions League semifinal,” he said.
“Both teams are having an incredible season, they are still running on three fronts. I support Inter and I hope everything goes well.”
Figo played for Inter from 2005 until 2009, so he didn’t win the treble under José Mourinho in 2010, but still has a solid bond with the Serie A giants.
Inter were Figo’s last club and the ex-winger scored 11 goals in 140 matches with the Nerazzurri.
He also played for Barcelona, controversially leaving the Catalans for Real Madrid in 2000.
The 52-year-old is not surprised by what Barça coach Hansi Flick has achieved in his first season at the club.
“He’s doing a great job, just as he did at Bayern. He has adapted quickly and very naturally. He’s brought confidence back to Raphinha and Lewandowski. When players feel confident, they perform at their best and even beyond.”
How about Lamine Yamal?
“Aside from his talent and quality, what surprises me are the calmness and personality he shows at his age,” Figo replied.
“Maybe when you’re young, you don’t really think about responsibility and what you represent; you just want to have fun. His teammates should follow his example and learn how he manages to shake off all the pressure.”
The former Portugal international also named his favourite to win the Champions League this season.
“PSG, after struggling in Europe at the start of the season, they’re collecting very positive results and they are in great physical shape, but it’s always hard to make a prediction,” he admitted.
However, Figo still hopes Inter will win the most important European club title and, hopefully, the treble as well.
“I hope they can go all the way; they have what it takes.”
