Tottenham legend Graham Roberts praises Spurs quartet for their incredible efforts in the win over Eintracht Frankfurt

Ange Postecoglou has guided Tottenham Hotspur to their first European semi-final since 2019 as they defeated Frankfurt 2-1 on aggregate.

A calm and composed penalty from Dominic Solanke in the first half helped Spurs beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals in Germany on Thursday evening. They will now face Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the final four of the competition, with a trophy still perfectly in sight to end a terrible Premier League season in which they sit 15th in the table.

Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to win the Europa League to improve his prospects of being the Spurs boss next season. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding his future for several months, and while the win over Frankfurt did ease some pressure off his shoulders, the Australian is wary that he is on thin ice at the moment.

Tottenham legend Graham Roberts has now rated the Ange-managed side’s chances of winning the continental competition this season. The former England defender, who lifted the UEFA Cup with Tottenham in 1984, also singled out four players for praise for their efforts in the quarter-final triumph over the Bundesliga side.

Taking to his X account after the game, Roberts called it a “fantastic result and performance”. The 65-year-old then praised the Spurs defenders Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro, applauding them for putting in an “incredible shift”.

Tottenham have been very good in Europe but have still managed to hit 40 points in the Premier League after 32 games, which in past season would bring genuine relegation fears if not for the big gap between the bottom three and the rest of the league. The league has been a write-off for the North Londoners for some time now, and after the win in Frankfurt, the chastening 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux last weekend seems a distant memory now.

Yet, Ange knows how important momentum is in this sport and will want his team to win the two Premier League games before the semi-final encounter against Bodo/Glimt. The 59-year-old must prepare his team in the best possible manner to head into the crucial European tie with confidence.

Now that the team has come so far, Ange and his boys must believe they can go all the way and clinch the European trophy.
