Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was in attendance for the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg between Milan and Inter on Wednesday night, ahead of the Champions League fixture between his side and the Nerazzurri, but Thursday’s reports claim that there were a few transfer topics to be discussed on the night as well.

Milan and Inter ended level at 1-1 in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final; Tammy Abraham opening the scoring two minutes into the second half before an emphatic equaliser from Hakan Calhanoglu 20 minutes later. The teams will meet again for the return leg on April 23.

Kompany watches Inter, and Milan transfer target in San Siro

There were several special guests in attendance in San Siro on Wednesday night, including former Juventus defender Mehdir Benatia, who is currently sporting director of Olympique de Marseille.

The former Morocco international was reportedly in town to discuss a possible sale of Marseille’s Luis Henrique, who is of interest to both Inter and Kompany’s Bayern.

Additionally, according to reports from Calciomercato.com on Thursday, Kompany also kept a keen eye on German centre-back Malick Thiaw, who is of interest to Bayern ahead of the summer transfer window.

Thiaw will be out of contract in the summer of 2027, which Calciomercato suggests makes a sale in either of the next two summer transfer windows a possibility, but the Rossoneri are holding off on making any formal decisions on transfers until a new sporting director is appointed, likely to be Fabio Paratici

Transfer targets aside, the main reason behind Kompany’s trip to Milan was, of course, to watch Simone Inzaghi’s Inter ahead of the Champions League quarter-final between the Nerazzurri and Bayern, which kicks off on Tuesday (April 8).
