Leicester City Sack Steve Cooper After 15 Games
- The City of Mauldin, the Greenville Triumph and Liberty soccer clubs revealed news of a 10,000 seat soccer stadium, announced at the BridgeWay Station in Mauldin, S.C. Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

Leicester City has confirmed that manager Steve Cooper has been dismissed following the team’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea on Saturday. The 44-year-old’s departure comes after a brief stint of only 15 matches in charge of Leicester City.

Leicester City Part Company With Steve Cooper

Steve Cooper took over from Enzo Maresca at Leicester City during the summer, but after only two wins in the Premier League, the Foxes have chosen to let the 44-year-old go. The Foxes sit in 16th place in the Premier League after playing twelve matches, managing to secure only two victories during that time. The club’s decision ended Steve Cooper’s brief tenure as manager, who joined the team in the summer to take over for Enzo Maresca. The decisive blow for Steve Cooper was delivered by the Italian coach, who is currently in charge of Chelsea, as Leicester lost 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City lost for a sixth time in the top flight as they aim to secure their place in the league after being promoted last season. A Leicester statement read:

” Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect. “Assistant Manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands have also left the Club. Steve, Alan and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the Club and with our best wishes for the future.

“Men’s First Team training will be overseen by First Team Coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, as the Club begins the process of appointing a new manager, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible.”

What Next For Leicester City

The club has announced that assistant manager Alan Tate and first-team coach and analyst Steve Rands, who came on board with Cooper in the summer, have also been let go. As they look for a new manager to replace the 44-year-old, the team currently sits in 16th place in the Premier League. Ben Dawson, along with Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, will take charge in the meantime. Leicester will be looking to quickly find a replacement for Cooper, as the Foxes are set to play against Brentford away in the Premier League this Saturday.

Final Thoughts

Leicester City has been the best of the newly promoted teams this season, but they are just two points clear of the relegation zone. This Leicester team definitely doesn’t have the same quality as in the past, but Steve Cooper’s squad showed they can still fight for results. This news might surprise a few, but it clearly reflects the goals of Leicester City’s owners.

Slot wants him: Liverpool could sign Trent’s replacement for less than £25m; Reds stepping up chase

It seems increasingly likely that Trent Alexander-Arnold will move on from Liverpool in the summer, and reports suggest that the Anfield hierarchy are already looking towards a prospective replacement. On Monday, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed that Real Madrid have ‘secured’ a deal for the 26-year-old, which if true would end months of speculation regarding the Reds’ vice-captain. The search for a new right-back has seemingly led Arne Slot towards Jeremie Frimpong, with LFC’s head coach understood to have been in regular phone contact with the Bayer Leverkusen speedster (Christian Falk), and a younger Dutch alternative also appears to be of interest. Liverpool eye Givairo Read as potential Trent replacement According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have intensified their efforts to try and sign Givairo Read from Feyenoord, although they face strong competition from Barcelona. Slot previously managed the 18-year-old at De Kuip and would like to work with the teenage right-back once again, with the youngster viewed as a long-term solution in that area of the pitch. He has three years remaining on his contract in Rotterdam, with his current employers believed to be seeking between €25m and €30m (£21m-£25m) for the player. Is Read the right option for Liverpool just yet? Read has shown himself to be a decent attacking outlet for Feyenoord, contributing a goal and seven assists from 27 games at right-back this season. That matches Trent’s creative tally from 39 matches this term, although the Liverpool vice-captain has a slightly better goal output (three). At just 18, he’s already a regular in the Eredivisie and has played in the knockout stages of the Champions League, enjoying plenty of exposure to a high level of football and still having virtually his entire career ahead of him. However, his rumoured asking price isn’t a great deal lower than Frimpong’s release clause of €40m (£33.5m), and the Leverkusen dynamo is a far more proven quantity who, at 24, is just coming into his prime. He’s also produced a consistently high G/A output from the right flank and would be ready to make an immediate impact at Anfield. The other question that Liverpool’s powerbrokers must contemplate is whether or not to put their faith in Conor Bradley to be the Reds’ starting right-back, with the Northern Ireland youngster performing commendably whenever he’s been given a chance. What happens with Trent is set to dictate how seriously LFC go into the market for a positional replacement in the summer. While Read seems like a promising talent, other options (such as Frimpong) would appear to represent better value for what they’d have to offer.

Sidney Crosby getting closer to breaking Wayne Gretzky record

The 2024-25 season has not gone as Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins might have hoped from a team success standpoint. But Crosby, even at 37 years old, remains one of the league's best players and is closing in on a milestone that would have him break a longstanding Wayne Gretzky record. Thanks to his two assists on Sunday in their 4-3 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers, Crosby is now up to 78 points in his first 70 games this season. That means he is just two points away from securing what would be his 20th season averaging at least a point-per-game in the NHL (because he missed two games this season the most games he can play is 80, meaning he only needs 80 points to secure a point-per-game average). That set an NHL record for most point-per-game seasons, breaking what is a tie with Gretzky for the most in NHL history. Crosby has never averaged less than a point per game in any one season in his career, a testament not only to his dominance as a player but also his overwhelming consistency to never really slow down. What makes Crosby's consistency so amazing, especially in relation to Gretzky, is that Crosby played the bulk of his career in one of the lowest-scoring eras in NHL history. That was especially true in the late 2000s and early 2010s when only a handful of players ever reached a point-per-game level in a season. Gretzky, meanwhile, played in one of the highest-scoring eras in league history when there were usually dozens of players each year reaching that mark. That is not to discredit Gretzky. It is just a testament to how great Crosby has been relative to his era.

Celtics Make Jayson Tatum Decision Amid Concerning Injury

All season long, the Boston Celtics have been considered the favorites to win their second straight NBA championship. After a rough stretch in January, they started to gain steam, and they came into Monday's game against the Sacramento Kings with 10 wins in their previous 11 games. They got star wing Jaylen Brown back from a bone bruise on Monday, only to lose Jayson Tatum, their best player, to an ankle injury. Tatum suffered the injury after hitting a 3-pointer and landing on the foot of Kings star center Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis received a flagrant 1 foul for getting into Tatum's landing space, and Tatum had to be helped to the locker room. The star forward wasn't made available for post-game interviews, but according to a post on X by Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, he seemed to be in good spirits and was wearing sneakers on both of his feet. "Jayson Tatum isn’t being made available for interviews," Himmelsbach wrote. "He’s at his locker eating and joking with teammates and wearing sneakers on both feet though." Needless to say, if Tatum has to miss an extended stretch, it could at least partly doom the Celtics' hopes of winning it all again. He came into Monday averaging 27.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists a game. He had two 40-plus-point games in the last few weeks, including a 46-point outburst in a frustrating 123-116 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Feb. 28. Tatum had 25 points before exiting the game against Sacramento. Boston was able to win easily by a final score of 113-95 and improve its record to 53-19.

Ohio State Buckeyes suffer another loss to the transfer portal following disappointing season where they missed the NCAA Tournament

Ohio State suffered its first transfer portal entree last week when Austin Parks decided to enter the portal after two seasons with the men’s basketball program. Now, another member of the 2024-2025 Buckeyes team is moving on after two seasons with the program. Forward Evan Mahaffey is entering the transfer portal for the second time in his college basketball career, per 247 Sports’ Travis Branham. After spending his freshman season with the Penn State Nittany Lions, Mahaffey transferred back to his home state to play for the Buckeyes. It was known that the Buckeyes would be going under some badly needed roster reconstruction after a 17-15 season where they missed the NCAA Tournament for a third straight time. Mahaffey started 34 games for the Buckeyes last season and averaged 4.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. The junior’s role shrunk this past season and his minutes went from 22.1 down to 18. Mahaffey started just three of the 32 games that he played in. The Cincinnati, Ohio native was mainly a defensive stopper for the Buckeyes often tasked with defending the opposition's best player. With senior Micah Parrish out of eligibility following the season, the Buckeyes badly need wing depth. Ohio State is covered to hit the portal hard and they almost have to. Finding wing depth as well as size for the interior will for sure be a point of emphasis. As it currently stands, Devin Royal and Colin White are the two returning wing-forward options on the roster. Mahaffey will play his senior season of college basketball elsewhere and the Buckeyes may not be done yet in terms of losing their own to the transfer portal.
