Manchester United are ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal in the race to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha in the summer. The Red Devils have prioritised the signing of a central forward after their current options have failed to establish themselves.

United have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as the two primary contenders to play as the number nine this season. Both Hojlund and Zirkzee have struggled with inconsistencies and a lack of output in front of the goal this season.

The Red Devils are currently 14th in the Premier League table, enduring a disastrous campaign involving Erik ten Hag’s sacking. As Ruben Amorim succeeded Ten Hag, the squad he inherited has failed to adjust to the new style of play.

United have to use the summer window wisely to financially back Amorim and buy players according to his tactical requirements. The former Sporting CP boss enjoyed a lot of success in Portugal, with Viktor Gyokeres playing a pivotal forward role.

According to Metro, Man United want Cunha from Wolves and are ahead of their Premier League rivals, Chelsea and Arsenal. Cunha has played a pivotal role for Wolves and has a £62.5m clause in his current contract with the club.

Wolves recently defeated Man United 0-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League clash to match them in points tally. Cunha delivered a fantastic performance as an attacking midfielder and played behind Jorgen Strand Larsen, showcasing his versatility and consistency.

The 25-year-old has scored 16 goals and provided four assists from 31 games in all competitions for Wolves this season. Cunha has the technical and physical abilities, helping him hold up play and move through the tight spaces in possession.

The Brazil international’s scoring record this season is proof of his technical prowess and composure in front of the goal. Furthermore, Cunha works hard for his team, and his all-around contribution makes him a perfect option for the number nine role.
