Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri confirmed Friday that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave the club.
"Yesterday, Cristiano Ronaldo communicated to me that he has no intention of remaining at Juventus," Allegri told a news conference ahead of Saturday's Serie A clash with Empoli, according to ESPN. "For this reason, he has not been selected."
The Portuguese superstar also did not participate in training on Friday but was present to say goodbye to his teammates. He is reportedly close to finalizing an agreement with Premier League side Manchester City after speaking with manager Pep Guardiola.
City had made Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane their No. 1 target this summer. However, Kane recently announced he would be staying with Tottenham, and City turned their attention toward Ronaldo.
Ronaldo's future with Juventus has been up in the air over the last week after he asked the club to leave him on the bench instead of starting him against Udinese because he wants a move away.
The 36-year-old also shared his frustration about transfer rumors relating to his future, accusing people of being "disrespectful." Some of those rumors linked him with a turn to Real Madrid, but the former Los Blancos star confirmed that was not an option, saying, "My story at Real Madrid has been written."
Real Madrid also has its sights set on Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe, so a move for Ronaldo is essentially out of the picture.
If Ronaldo joins Man City, he'll be one of the club's several moves this summer, including former Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.
The Sky Blues own a 1-0-1 record this season after a season-opening 1-0 loss to Tottenham and a 5-0 win over Norwich City.
