Liverpool will face Newcastle United at Anfield in the Premier League fixture to build more pressure on title rivals Arsenal. The Reds secured an 11-point lead over the Gunners after beating Manchester City while West Ham defeated their title rivals.

However, Arsenal have a game in hand while 11 Premier League games remain for Liverpool including this clash against Newcastle. The Premier League has enjoyed a very competitive season with any team capable of causing an upset, irrespective of form.

The competition for the top-four finish involves seven teams with a seven-point gap between third-placed Nottingham Forest and ninth-placed Brighton. These teams have extracted many points from title contenders Liverpool and Arsenal, leaving no room for league leaders to make any errors until now.

Nevertheless, Liverpool must maintain their focus as complacency and other extraneous factors ruined the tail end of the last season. The Reds cannot allow the repeat of last season’s mistakes as they also face Champions League knockout stage fixtures.

Liverpool vs Newcastle United: Recent Form

The Magpies have suffered with inconsistencies but remain a formidable team to beat with some fantastic in-form players. Newcastle have beaten Arsenal, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest in the last five fixtures in all competitions. However, they suffered a huge 4-0 loss against Manchester City and a 1-2 loss to Fulham in those five games.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also not enjoyed an easy-going form during this fixture congestion that started from the FA Cup loss to Plymouth Argyle. The Reds drew two games against Everton and Aston Villa while beating Man City and Wolves in the Premier League.

Liverpool drew Newcastle 3-3 in their early Premier League clash at St. James Park on 4th December 2024. The late equalizing goal from Fabian Schar came after a terrible misjudgment from goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Liverpool vs Newcastle United: Predicted Lineup

The Magpies defender Sven Botman is a potential doubt for the clash against the Reds with a minor knee injury. Meanwhile, Jamaal Lascelles and Joelington remain unavailable with expectations of them returning for the Carabao Cup final clash with the Reds on March 16.

Liverpool have to deal with the impressive attacking unit of Anthony Gordon, Jacob Murphy and their sensational forward Alexander Isak. Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes are also on good form this season, providing a strong midfield partnership.

Newcastle United’s predicted XI: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Willock, Guimaraes, Tonali; Murphy, Isak, Gordon

Meanwhile, Liverpool have two notable absentees Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley as Cody Gakpo returned against Man City. Arne Slot confirmed Diogo Jota’s absence against the Citizens right before the game but the Portuguese should return to action for Liverpool against Newcastle in this Premier League bout.

The Reds played four midfielders against the Citizens but with Gakpo’s return, there is a potential to play three natural attackers again.

The Kop Times predicted lineup for Liverpool against Newcastle United for the Premier League clash at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool’s predicted XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Diaz, Gakpo

Liverpool vs Newcastle United: Predicted scoreline

Complacency is the biggest enemy for the Reds at this point and with the game at Anfield, they should register a convincing victory. Nevertheless, Newcastle remains a strong threat on counter-attacks with the undeniable presence of Isak up front alongside Gordon.

The Reds should secure a 2-0 victory, taking their performance against Man City as a good foundation to rebuild a consistent form.
