Scotland international Scott McTominay has scored nine Serie A goals this season, resulting in the most prolific debutant in midfield since 2007-08, joining club legend Marek Hamsik.
McTominay scored his third goal in the last two league games on Saturday, contributing to Napoli’s 1-0 win over strugglers Monza.
It was his ninth Serie A goal this term, which, as reported by Opta, means he has now reached club legend Hamsik as the most prolific midfielder in his debut season with the Partenopei.
The ex-Slovakia international joined Napoli in 2007, after the Partenopei were promoted from Serie B.
McTominay had bagged a brace in Napoli’s previous game against Empoli, beating his personal record for goals scored in a single campaign.
The ex-Manchester United midfielder’s goal against Monza today allowed Antonio Conte’s men to join Inter at the top of the Serie A table, but the defending champions have a game in hand, to be played against Bologna tomorrow.
