Ange Postecoglou is expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season

Tottenham Hotspur may well be in the market for a new head coach.

Indeed, Ange Postecoglou is likely to be sacked in the coming weeks, regardless of Spurs’ Europa League results. The Australian manager appears to have lost the trust of the majority of the fanbase, given the underwhelming run of performances and results in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites suffered yet another home defeat in the Premier League on Monday night, losing 2-1 to Champions League hopefuls Nottingham Forest. It was their 18th of the season, and relegation-threatened Ipswich Town have only suffered two more. It is a perilous situation and one that the veteran tactician will not have anticipated at the beginning of his second season at White Hart Lane.

The future of Ange Postecoglou looks set, with Daniel Levy thinking about a replacement at Spurs. The Tottenham chairman will reportedly make a decision regardless of their prospects in the Europa League.

The North London outfit, by hook or crook, have made it to the Europa League semi-finals. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the first leg of the quarter-finals. Spurs rocked up at the Deutsche Bank Park last week and beat Frankfurt 1-0 to punch a semi-final ticket, where they will face Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.

Speaking on the talkSPORT show, Simon Jordan was discussing Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham with host Jim White. When White asked whether the Greek-born Aussie tactician would have been employed at Spurs if they weren’t in Europe, Jordan replied:

“I don’t know how you can argue for him. I don’t like to argue against him because I like him and I liked the opportunity that he was given and I thought he might be the right person for it, but you cannot be sitting in the position that you’re in.

“Because Tottenham are poor, I’m surprised they got through against Frankfurt. That might tell you more about Frankfurt than it was against Tottenham.”

With Ange’s future up in the air, the North Londoners will definitely need to replace him with someone capable of taking the club forward next season. While winning the Europa League may save him from the sack, the expectation is that Tottenham will have a new man in the dugout for the 2025-26 season.

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is the leading candidate to replace Postecoglou in N17. Marco Silva has been linked with the role as well, but he recently rubbished the rumours and stated he is fully focused on his Fulham job.
