Liverpool’s abrupt Champions League exit has triggered several underlying concerns. The players are grappling with the disappointment of missing out on a Scouser’s treble, which could lead to demotivation. As a result, the summer transfer window may see several departures. According to Ben Jacobs on GIVEMESPORT’s ‘Market Madness’ podcast, Diogo Jota could leave Liverpool this summer. While the Portuguese forward is not considered a ‘priority exit,’ clubs competing in European competitions may look to sign him.
Since arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Liverpool back in 2020, Diogo Jota has been quite a handy option, scoring 46 Premier League goals with 115 appearances and 64 across competitions. He has a good grasp of the Anfield setup, but reduced game time may push him toward an exit. Jacobs has stated that opportunities for first-team football at other clubs may appeal to the versatile forward.
Jota may not fit Slot’s style, but his experience and Premier League expertise remain valuable. Jacobs emphasised that he isn’t a priority exit this summer. Jurgen Klopp previously described him as ‘exceptional,’ highlighting his seven years in the top flight. However, if Gakpo, Diaz, and Mohamed Salah stay beyond the summer, along with potential new signings, Jota could struggle to secure a regular spot under the Dutch manager.
On GIVEMESPORT’s ‘Market Madness’ podcast, Jacobs clarified that Jota isn’t a priority exit for Liverpool. However, he revealed that the forward could leave if he received better first-team opportunities elsewhere.

Jacobs explained that while Jota’s departure is a possibility, it is not a priority exit for Liverpool. His future largely depends on whether he believes he will receive regular playing time under Arne Slot. The club is not actively pushing him out, but other players like Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have been favoured at times.
Darwin Nunez is seen as a more likely departure due to interest from Saudi Arabia. Jota’s versatility allows him to play multiple positions, making him a valuable squad player. However, with potential opportunities elsewhere, clubs may approach Liverpool to assess his availability. Jota remains keen on playing European football, preferably in the Champions League.
With the anticipated rebuilding of Merseyside during the summer transfer window, a number of names are likely to be put on the club’s list for transfer in or transfer out. If Federico Chiesa is not able to make an entry into the starting XI of Anfield, Jota may very well have a better reason to remain. As Slot wants to strengthen his attacking department, this versatile and experienced Portuguese forward may very well still come into Liverpool’s plans.
