Tottenham are eyeing Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba

Tottenham Hotspur have had several defensive casualties this season. The Lilywhites have dealt with huge injuries throughout the campaign. Injury issues have partly been the reason why Ange Postecoglou’s men are in the bottom half of the Premier League table in 14th place. It has been a season to forget for Spurs fans, and the league is already wrapped up for the club.

Spurs have endured a tough campaign. Ange Postecoglou has been without his first-choice goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, for more than two months after the Italian suffered a fractured ankle. Star defenders Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven have also encountered several injuries and have not featured week in and week out since the start of the season.

To make matters worse, backup defenders Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso also suffered season-ending injuries earlier last month. Ben Davies has also been injured for most parts of the campaign. The lack of squad depth has really been showcased this season under the Australian manager and chairman Daniel Levy is under scrutiny for not investing in the squad.

Tottenham eyeing defensive signings

Tottenham Hotspur are going to be in the market for a defender this summer. The North London club have been linked with several players in recent weeks and they will be hoping to land a solid player to bolster the defence. With Cristian Romero likely heading for the exit doors, Daniel Levy will be hoping to replace the Argentina international as quickly as possible.

As per TBR Football, Tottenham are interested in buying Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba. The 26-year-old is thought to be high on the list of replacements lined up for the outgoing Romero. The report also suggests that the German club have put up a price tag of £46m for the 26-year-old.

TBR Football also reports that along with Tottenham Hotspur, clubs like Chelsea, Brighton, and Newcastle United are also interested in the former Vitoria SC player. Spurs will have to fend off competition if they want to sign the Leverkusen defender.

A worthy replacement for Romero?

Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba has been one of the key players for Xabi Alonso. The 26-year-old was also a part of the Leverkusen squad that won the Bundesliga title last season with zero defeats. This season, Tapsoba has been in scintillating form as well. As per Sofascore, the defender has played 37 games in all competitions, keeping 13 clean sheets and having an average rating of 7.00.

The ex-Vitoria SC player is a good carrier of the ball and is known for his passing range. He is important for Xabi Alonso’s team in the buildup phase and can easily play in a high line. Tapsoba is also quick and has an impressive pace to cover the spaces left behind by the defence.

He will be an ideal replacement for Cristian Romero if the Argentine defender decides to leave the club. Signing Edmond Tapsoba will be a step in the right direction and fans will be hoping that the titles will follow soon.
