Tottenham have been in the transfer race with Arsenal and Man United for the signing of Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand

Tottenham Hotspur are battling for a potential Europa League success, which could drastically have an impact on their summer transfer window. The potential Europa League triumph would not only end their trophy drought but also secure next season’s Champions League qualification.

Ange Postecoglou’s future at the club hinges on the Europa League success. The Champions League qualification also provides a massive financial boost to the Lilywhites and a chance to rebuild the squad in a better way.

Spurs have struggled to control games as much as Ange Postecoglou would have liked to. And the main reason behind this is the lack of a natural No.6 who’d not only break the opposition’s attacks but also provide a platform for the creative players to thrive. None other than Lucas Bergvall has performed consistently in the middle of the park, which demonstrates the need for a defensive midfielder ahead of next season.

According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are in the transfer race for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand. Arsenal and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the player, who has an €80 million release clause in his contract.

Rated as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe, Morten Hjulmand has been a consistent performer at Sporting CP for yet another season. The Denmark international has racked up 43 appearances across all competitions, registering three goals and two assists. His contributions have been massive in the Lions being at the summit of the league table after 30 games.

With interest in the player increasing, Sporting CP remain open to selling Hjulmand at the right price. The aforementioned report adds Sporting values the 25-year-old at around €50-60 million, with European bigwigs such as Barcelona, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain also keen.

Hjulmand will fit in perfectly at Tottenham. The midfielder is very good at winning back possession for his team and reads the game well. His ability to intercept plays is second to none, while the Dane likes to drive with the ball in the final third of the pitch before making a telling pass. Due to his technical ability on the ball and aerial ability, the ex-Lecce man would be an upgrade on the hugely inconsistent Yves Bissouma.

However, there are a few stumbling blocks along the way for Spurs. Hjulmand is also targeted by Arsenal and Man United, so Ange’s Tottenham must at least qualify for next season’s Champions League via the Europa League to give themselves a chance of landing him this summer.
