Cagliari might have to do without veteran defender Yerry Mina for the rest of the season after he was diagnosed with a muscular injury.

The Colombia international limped off during the first half of yesterday’s 2-1 home defeat to Fiorentina, where he had to be replaced by Jose Luis Palomino.

Tests were performed today and a statement from the Cagliari medical staff confirmed Mina had been diagnosed with a Grade I lesion to the femoral bicep in his right thigh.

Although no confirmation is given for the time he will be out of action for, this type of injury generally requires 2-4 weeks on the treatment table.

Mina in doubt for remaining Cagliari games

It means Mina’s season might already be over, which is a heavy blow for a Cagliari side battling to avoid relegation.

He made 29 Serie A appearances for the Sardinians this season, where he received four yellow cards and one red.

Cagliari are currently 16th in the Serie A table, four points clear of the drop zone.

Their five remaining fixtures are against Verona, Udinese, Como, Venezia and Napoli.
