Find The Best Casinos Near Me in 2025

People throw around the word saturated when they start to discuss nearby casinos, especially in the Northeast, where, admittedly, you can find a lot of casinos - with more coming soon to the city of New York. But what is often lost is that more than 60 million people live there.

And folks often want a choice. Sometimes, they just want to run to some regional casino for a quick hour workout, pulling on the slot machine handle; other times, they want to take the family for golf, swimming, and some great food for a three-day weekend.

So, yes, there are over 1,000 casinos in the United States, and there is a good chance that if you live in a large metropolitan area, there is a casino quite close by. But that is a fact to be celebrated, as is the sheer variety of casinos across this great country.

From the billion-dollar neon palaces in Las Vegas to the small tourist cruise boats in Myrtle Beach, from the guitar-shaped tribal casino in Tampa to the understated elegance and luxury on offer at the Tulalip Resort in Washington state, join us as we show you some of the casinos that many people are proud to call neighbors.

Find Slot Machines Near Me

When people ask about the nearest slots near me, the answer is even more ubiquitous. Many states, like Illinois, Louisiana, and Nevada, allow slots in many local businesses. If you live in one of these states, the nearest slot machine may be just down the street at the nearest deli or convenience store.

There may be no need to look for the nearest casino if you have video poker or slots just a block away.

Best Casinos in Each Region

We've compiled a list of some of our favorite casinos in each geographical area. This is by no means a comprehensive list, and what we value in a casino may not be what you are looking for. But these are the choices that we enjoy and that have highly favorable reviews on travel sites.

Northwest Casinos

The rainy Northwest is home to many tribal casinos. Because they are on Sovereign Indian land, many have their own rules and compacts about what they can offer. Sometimes, this may mean that the casino only has slots, or if it has table games, they may be played a bit differently than what you are used to. But what they all offer is hospitality and beautiful scenery.

Blue Lake Casino

This beautiful resort, located just a few miles from Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean, is set in the beautiful redwood forests of Northern California and is operated by the Blue Lake Rancheria tribe. It offers 660 slot machines, twelve table games, and three restaurants.

Silver Reef Casino Resort

Mt Baker is just a few miles to the east if you've ever wanted to ski down an extinct volcano. The casino has eight restaurants, over 1,000 slots, and 15 table games.

The Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes operate this large casino, which is about an hour from Portland and only about 20 minutes from the beautiful Oregon coast. It is at elevation in the Oregon Coastal range, which is one of the wettest places in the US, with about 100 inches of rainfall a year.

The casino itself features 2,000 slots and 45 table games. There are five restaurants to choose from, including Amore and Ten Barrel Hop Yard. Besides their best-in-class convention facility, you will find a brand new Top Golf Swing Suite.

Northeast Casinos

The Northeast is littered with casinos. Most of them are truly impressive destination resorts; there are not many mom-and-pops in this neck of the woods. Here are five resort casinos we recommend the next time you are in the region.

Mohegan Sun Casino Resort

Mohegan Sun first opened its doors in 1996. Its location in Uncasville, southeastern Connecticut, meant that it was just a couple of hours' drive away for millions of gamblers. It is truly a huge casino resort, with more than 4,000 slots and 300 table games. There is also a 12,000-seat arena, 40 dining options, a spa, a golf course, and even an indoor water park.

Turning Stone Casino Resort

The Oneida Indians operate this stunning casino resort in central New York state near Verona. It opened in 1993 and has continued growing over the last thirty years. The resort has more than 2,000 slots and about 90 table games. Other amenities include 72 holes of championship golf, a 175-spot RV park, a 12,000-square-foot spa, and more than 20 restaurants.

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa

Atlantic City has some impressive casino resorts, but none of them compare to the Queen of the Jersy Shore. The Borgata, an MGM property, opened in 2003 and underwent massive expansions in 2006 and 2008. It has 54,000 feet of spa space, an outdoor music venue with room for more than 4,500, and convention space for as many as 2,400. There are 2,798 hotel rooms.

The casino has the premier poker room on the East Coast, with more than 50 tables for all levels of players. The luxurious casino floor has more than 2,500 slots and 175 table games. When it's time to eat, there are 15 restaurants, including the B-Prime Steak House and the fabled Borgata buffet.

  • Casino Square Footage: 161,000

  • Address: 1 Borgata Way Atlantic City, NJ 08401

  • Contact Info: (609) 317-1000 / customercare@theborgata.com

Foxwoods Resort Casino

The Mashantucket Tribe opened this casino project in 1986 as a bingo hall. It has grown enormously over almost four decades, and the entire project now covers something like 9 million square feet. The poker room has 54 tables, around 3,400 slots, and 240 table games.

Painfully aware of the new casinos that will open in New York City, just 2 1/2 hours away, in the next couple of years, Foxwoods has attempted to cement its place as THE family destination resort in the Northeast Corridor. You can zipline, you can race golf carts, you can shop til you drop. You can hike, you can bowl, you can play tennis or pickleball. There is a water park. There are 36 holes of golf, including the award-winning Lake Of The Isles course. There is a Top Golf simulator and, after all that, a 21,000-square-foot spa to help you recover.

There are 2,200 hotel rooms to choose from, or if you prefer, you can bring your RV to one of the 309 camping spots. When it's time for dinner, you can choose from celebrity-inspired restaurants like Guy Fieri, Gordon Ramsey, or David Buke. You can also settle for American classics like Hard Rock Cafe or California Pizza Kitchen. In total, there are almost 30 other dining spots to choose from.

  • Casino Square Footage: 340,000

  • Address: 350 Trolley Line Blvd. Ledyard CT 06338

  • Contact Info: (800) 369-9663 / foxwoodssocial@foxwoods.com

Encore Boston Harbor

Encore Boston Harbor is a Wynn-operated resort casino on the Mystic River. As with anything Wynn operates, it is an extremely high-end property. The resort also includes the six-acre Harbor Park. A relative newcomer to the Northeast casino market, Encore didn't open until 2019. It has 15 dining options, 3,000 slots, and 210 table games.

The hotel resort has 671 all-suite rooms and cost about $2.5 billion to build. While the number of hotel rooms is relatively small, the rooms themselves average over 600 square feet and are quite large by casino resort standards, where encouraging people to spend time in their rooms has sometimes been seen as a no-no.

  • Casino Square Footage: 210,000

Midwest Casinos

Casinos in the midwest encompass small Tribal operations to the biggest casinos in the world. Plenty of commercial casinos exist in big cities and even smaller towns. State laws are responsible for the locations of many of these casinos, which were built strategically to take advantage of states that at that time had no gaming.

You can still see this dynamic along the Texas-Oklahoma border, where many huge tribal casinos cater to the millions of people in Dallas and Fort Worth, just an hour away, who don't have any legal casinos in their state. In any case, you are much more likely to find Midwestern casinos near the state border than any other location in the country.

Potawatomi Bingo Casino

The Potawatomi Casino in the heart of Milwaukee opened in 1991 and has reinvented itself numerous times. The current high-end casino has more than 2,800 slots and 50 table games. There is a theater with a 2,700-person capacity and eight restaurants, including one owned by the rock band Kiss, named Rock and Brews.

The hotel features the usual spa, convention center, and even a wedding event center. It has 500 rooms and over 100 suites.

  • Casino Square Footage: 150,000

  • Address: 1721 W. Canal St. Milwaukee, WI 53233

Ameristar Casino Hotel - Kansas City

Some casinos struggled more than others to bounce back and find new life after the Pandemic than others. Ameristar once had a 17-screen theater and a buffet, but both are still closed. Our favorite restaurant, Arthur Bryants, closed. Large portions of the second floor were walled off, and many machines were out of service when we last visited.

In its heyday, it had over 1,500 machines and 60 slots. They still get rave reviews on their hotel, though we didn't stay, with over 180 rooms that sit very near Arrowhead Stadium and the Kauffman Baseball Park. There are eight restaurants, including a brew pub and a quite tasty Asian Noodle bar, as well as a KC chop house.

  • Casino Square Footage: 140,000

  • Address: 3200 North Ameristar Drive, Kansas City, MO 64161

  • Contact Info: (816) 414-7000 / Contact Form

Harrah's Joliet Casino and Hotel

Caesar's operates this Harrah's branded riverboat/barge along the riverfront in Joliet. While not the largest of the casinos we will be reviewing, Caesar's has kept it up over the years. Currently, it only has 800 slots and 20 table games left, but friendly and outgoing dealers and staff.

Dining options on a barge are always going to be limited. In this case, you have two options: the Reserve or Cross Street Grill. The hotel situated alongside has 200 rooms.

  • Casino Square Footage: 39,000

  • Address: 151 North Joliet St. 60432

  • Contact Info: (815) 740-7800 / aforeman1@caesars.com

MGM Grand Detroit

This large casino, operated by MGM, is located in downtown Detroit near the Detroit River and the Canadian border. It's odd that it only has four restaurants for such a large casino. The hotel features 400 luxury rooms, and its indoor pool area is one of the nicest we've ever been to.

As you might expect, there is a beautiful 20,000-square-foot spa and a Top Golf suite. The casino has 160 table games, ensuring you can find your favorite, and 2,300 slot machines.

  • Casino Square Footage: 100,000

  • Address: 1777 Third Avenue Detroit, MI 48226

  • Contact Info: (877) 888-2121 / customerservice@det.mgmgrand.com

WinStar World Casino

Thackervlle, Oklahoma, population 410, is home to the world's biggest casino by gaming square footage. The massive casino floor has over 560,000 square feet of gaming and over 10,000 electronic slots. There are also more than 50 poker tables and over 100 table games.

The rest of the property doesn't fail to impress either. There are 1,400 hotel rooms, 36 holes of golf, a 200-spot RV park, and several pools to choose from. They have 65,000 square feet of dedicated convention space and a 3,500-seat concert hall. While it's hard to keep track, there are roughly two dozen dining options at any given time.

Owned and operated by the Chickasaw tribe, this is one Midwestern casino worth the trip. It is just over an hour from Dallas by car.

  • Casino Square Footage: 560,000

  • Address: 777 Casino Ave. Thackerville 73459

  • Contact Info: (866) 946-7787 / winstarboxoffice@chickasaw.net

Southwest Casinos

When we think about casinos in the Southwest, our minds are automatically drawn to the excitement, glitz, and glamour of Las Vegas. However, many spectacular, secluded casinos exist in New Mexico and Arizona. In California, we can find Tribal Casinos near some of the largest population centers in the state, as well as Indian casinos a hundred miles from anywhere.

Bellagio Hotel & Casino

Bellagio is the bookend to the Borgata on the other end of the continent. It is a sophisticated, high-end resort built for excess. Operated, just like its sister property, by MGM, the Bellagio uses both spectacle and splash to gain your attention. Its dancing fountains are world famous. The man-made 8.5-acre lake the display sits on, along with the more than 1,200 fountains and almost 5,000 lights, cost $40 million when the casino first opened in 1998.

The spa has Forbes' coveted four-diamond award, and the adjacent Kalologie Medspa is name dropped as one of the top ten in the country. You can catch the hot Cirque Soleil show "O" at the Bellagio Theater and have drinks at Bruno Mars' Club, The Pinky Ring. We suggest The Mayfair Supper Club or Wolfgang Puck's Spago for dinner, though both Michael Mina and Le Cirque have earned Michelin stars in the past. The hotel has 3,933 rooms.

The casino has several high-end Prive' rooms where the word opulent is an understatement. You can find 2,300 slots, over 150 table games, and 50 additional poker tables on the main floor. The race and sportsbook is out of this world, with six large screens and 38 flat-screen TVs.

  • Casino Square Footage: 156,000

  • Address: 3600 South Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89109

  • Contact Info: (702) 693 7111 / bellagioguestservices@bellagioresort.com

Wynn and Encore Las Vegas

The ultra high-end Wynn property premiered on the Las Vegas strip in 2005 and turned even more heads when its sister property, Encore, was completed in 2008. The two properties combined cost a bit over $5 billion, which isn't couch cushion change even for billionaires like Steve Wynn, who was CEO of Wynn until 2018

Designed without a theme and once famously referred to by an architecture critic as a "midrise office tower in Houston, circa 1983," the Wynn was supposed to showcase the Nevada desert's natural beauty. Whether it or Encore managed to capture that effectively is still a point of some contention.

The two hotel complexes have 4,750 rooms and more than 20 restaurants to choose from. But try Sinatra at least once during your stay—double points if you sit on the outdoor patio. It is a meal you won't soon forget. There is precisely one golf course adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip, and it is the Tom Fazio-designed Wynn Golf Club. Or try out XS or the Encore Beach Club for the hottest DJs and techno this side of Berlin.

Over in the casino, well casinos, as you can choose from the Encore or Wynn offerings, you will find more than 1,800 slots, some of them $1,000 a pull, or you can try your luck at the 180 table games. The beautiful Wynn Poker Room has 28 poker tables.

  • Casino Square Footage: 194,000

  • Address: 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89109

Pechanga Resort Casino

One of California's largest Tribal Casinos, the Pechanga Resort, is located off of the I-15 between Los Angeles and San Diego. While far south from what is typically considered California wine country, the area is known for its award-winning wineries and temperate climate.

The casino hotel has 1,100 rooms, a 25,000-square-foot spa, and a massive pool the size of five football fields demurely named The Cove. They have room for 3,000 at the event center and 12 restaurants, including the Great Oak Steakhouse and 1882 Cantina.

The casino has 5,000 slots and more than 150 table games, all of which are non-smoking. You can also find a 14,000-square-foot high-limit gaming room should you wish to truly test your luck.

  • Casino Square Footage: 200,000

  • Address: 45000 Pechanga Parkway Temecula CA 92592

  • Contact Info: (877) 711-2946 / contact@pechanga.com

Talking Stick Resort

Just 20 minutes from the Phoenix airport and downtown Scottsdale, this casino is situated in a beautiful piece of the high desert with stunning views.

You will find six restaurants for your dining pleasure. If you like your aged steak with a view, try the aptly named Orange Sky restaurant for a sunset meal. Ocean Trails, the Pechanga buffet, bravely serves raw oysters and shrimp boils in the middle of the Sonoran desert.

There are the ubiquitous spas and concert spaces, along with 22 meeting rooms and a seldom-seen 50,000 square feet of outdoor meeting space. The casino features 1,400 slots, more than 50 table games, and 30 plus poker tables.

  • Casino Square Footage: 240,000

  • Address: 9800 Talking Stick Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85256

Grand Sierra Resort Reno

Reno, the Biggest Little City in the World, is home to Alex Meruelo's Grand Sierra Resort. While already an impressive resort, Mr. Meruelo's plan is to invest another $1 billion in the property and build out a 10,000-seat arena that will be home to the UNR men's basketball team, which will further cement this property's bona fides as the place to be in Northern Nevada.

The casino is currently home to 1,200 slots, 47 table games, and six poker tables. There are eight restaurants, including a Charlie Palmer steak house and Uno Mas Street Tacos. The hotel has almost 2,000 rooms, and you will find a two-screen movie theater, a 50-lane bowling alley, a heated outdoor pool, retail shopping, and 178 RV spots with views of the Truckee River.

The expansion envisions adding a basketball arena, Aqua Golf, a skating rink that might be used by a minor league NHL franchise, a new parking garage, and apartments for workers.

Southeast Casinos

While there aren't as many casinos down in the Bible Belt, dozens are still scattered across Mississippi, Louisiana, and even some Tribal casinos in Florida. Most are found either along the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, the Louisiana/Texas border, or the mighty Mississippi.

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood

Probably best known for its 440-foot-tall guitar-shaped hotel, Hard Rock Hollywood opened in southeast Florida in 2004. The Seminole tribe would go on to buy out all of Hard Rock International, including 134 restaurants in over 40 countries.

They aimed to create Hard-Rock-themed hotels, casinos, and all-inclusive resorts worldwide. They have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams by purchasing the Mirage in Sin City, which will open its own guitar-shaped 60-story all-suite hotel in the heart of the Vegas Strip in the next few years.

The Hard Rock Hollywood is located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, within a few hours' drive of millions of potential customers. Through a masterful compact with the State of Florida, the Seminoles have exclusive rights to gaming in the state.

The hotel actually has three separate resorts with a total of 1,271 rooms. You can dine at over a dozen venues, including Council Oak Steak And Seafood and Abiaka. The Hard Rock Live venue seats 7,000. Golf is not on the property, but the hotel has agreements with more than a dozen championship courses in the area.

The casino has more than 2,500 slots, including some Seminole-linked Wide Area Progressives that are tied in with slots at Hard Rock Tampa and other Seminole casinos around the state. You can play 200 table games, and another 45 poker games are available in the poker room.

  • Casino Square Footage: 140,000

  • Address: 1 Seminole Way, Davie, FL 33314

  • Contact Info: (866) 502-7529 / customercare@hardrock.com

Caesars New Orleans Casino

The former Harrah's New Orleans was rebranded with the Caesars name in May of 2024. The new tower will add 340 new hotel rooms to the property's existing 450 luxury rooms. Two floors and approximately 55 rooms will operate under the Nobu name, and you can find a new Nobu sushi restaurant on the property.

The new plans also include a celebrity chef-themed food hall with offerings from Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, and Archie Manning. You absolutely should not leave New Orleans without trying the city's famous Lucky Dog, long a late-night staple. You can now get one inside Caesars without traipsing through the crowds on Bourbon Street.

The casino has 2,100 slots, 90 table games, and a dozen poker tables. Just blocks from the Louisiana Super Dome, there is Caesar's Sportsbook, where you can bet on all the action.

  • Casino Square Footage: 115,000

  • Address: 8 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130

  • Contact Info: (800) 427-7247 / Contact Form

Gold Strike Tunica Casino Hotel

The Gold Strike was run by MGM from 2005 until late 2023 when the Cherokee Nation purchased it for $450 million. At 33 floors, it was the tallest building in Mississippi for many years. There are five dining options. The Chicago Steakhouse was awarded the Wine Spectator award for excellence, and the American buffet has something for everyone.

You can play 36 holes at either Tunica National Golf Course or the beautiful River Bend Course. Of course, there is an award-winning spa, the Gold Strike theater seats 800, and the pool area is the best in the region.

The casino has over 1,200 slots, with another 100 in the high-limit area. The table games area has 50 tables, and while you can no longer use your MGM Rewards, the Cherokee Nation's tier card offers lots of perks. It can be used in over ten Cherokee Casino properties, although we found the name One Star a bit off-putting for a rewards program.

  • Casino Square Footage: Unknown

  • Address: 1010 Casino Center Dr. Tunica Resort MS 38676

  • Contact Info: (662) 357-1111 / guestservices@goldstrike.com

Beau Rivage Resort & Casino

The Beau Rivage is yet another sister property to the Borgata and Bellagio, albeit on a slightly smaller scale. This property is only 32 floors tall and has 1,740 rooms. An impressive 95 of those are suites, almost all looking out over the Gulf of Mexico. There are over a dozen restaurants; we highly suggest Coraline's or BR Prime. Like most MGMs, they have a Top Golf suite and shopping area along their Promenade area. The spa is award-winning and very clean, as most MGM spas tend to be.

The Tom Fazio-designed Fallen Oaks Golf Course is more than twenty minutes from the casino proper, but transportation is easily arranged. It is voted the best golf course in the state year after year. There are also opportunities for sport fishing or just laying on the beach here if you would prefer. The pool area is for turning stress lines into tan lines, or at least that is what the concierge desk says. It is a beautiful pool area overlooking the Biloxi Sound and Gulf.

The casino has 90 table games, a state-of-the-art sportsbook, and one of the best poker rooms in the South. You will also find over 1,600 slot machines.

  • Casino Square Footage: 85,000

  • Address: 875 Beach Blvd. Biloxi MS 39530

  • Contact Info: (228) 386-7111 / customercare@beaurivage.com

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

Interestingly, this Hard Rock is not managed by the Seminoles but by Bally's International. Consequently, you can't use your Hard Rock Unity points here. The hotel has 470 rooms, most with views out across the Gulf of Mexico. Likewise, the pool area faces onto the Gulf and features cabanas, DJs, and a Tequila restaurant. There is also a Rock Spa and Convention area.

Like all Hard Rocks, both the hotel and casino floor are stuffed with rock and roll memorabilia, and the Elvis Pajamas are not to be missed. There are ten dining spots, including, of course, a Hard Rock Cafe. But also a Ruth Chris steak house and a local seafood restaurant called Half Shell, which serves fresh local seafood probably brought in from the boats docked in the harbor next door.

The casino has 55 table games and almost 1,000 slots. It features a high-end blackjack area and a Fortune Palace room for high-end baccarat play, adjacent to Macau, Hard Rock Bilox's Asian themed restaurant, for convenience.

  • Casino Square Footage: 50,000

Minimum Gambling Age in Each State

Georgia, Washington, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Rhode Island, Montana, and Idaho all allow casino gaming at 18. In California and Michigan, it depends on the casino. The remaining states with casinos have a legal gaming age of 21. All seven states that have legalized online gambling are also 21 to wager online.

Many states allow other forms of gambling, such as pari-mutual racing, lottery, and bingo, when players reach eighteen.

Where Are Online Casinos Legal?

Online casinos first became legal in New Jersey back in 2013. Over the last ten-plus years, they have slowly gained acceptance in other states. These states have been able to closely monitor New Jersey's progress and ensure that it was a net gain for the state when it comes to revenue, growing the online side without harming the golden goose that is the land-based casino revenue, which creates many more jobs and other benefits, before passing legislation of their own.

As of 2025, seven states had legal real money online casinos. In addition to the OG, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware on the East Coast have passed various versions of legal online wagering. Michigan had also decided to try the new technology.

Land-Based Casinos vs Online Casinos

Not only are there obvious times when playing online will be much easier than driving several hours to a land-based casino, but there is increasing evidence that many people who gamble online don't visit land-based casinos at all. This is especially prevalent in younger demographics, but this may not be a preference.

Instead, it may be that they lack the transportation to take them to the casino or that they don't have the budget for $25 table minimums or slots set at a 10% house advantage. They may very well prefer the glitz, glamor, and social aspects of a brick-and-mortar casino but lack the resources to make the visit.

Certainly, in terms of better value for spend and ease of use, the best online casinos offer many benefits over traditional casinos, but they are unlikely to ever eclipse the excitement and jaw-dropping spectacle of America's biggest and best casino properties.

Problem Gambling Resources

Problem gambling doesn't just affect the two to three million people in this country with a severe gambling problem. Nor does it just affect the other five to eight million who struggle with mild to moderate gambling-related issues. It affects the tens of millions of people who are family or friends of those who are struggling.

But you should know that whether it is you or a loved one struggling with addiction, help is out there. One of the best places to reach out is the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER. You can text, call, or live chat. They can help you understand what problem gambling looks like, see what treatment options might work best with your lifestyle, and then get you in touch with people near you who can help. And, of course, nowadays, no matter where you live, help is only a Zoom or live chat away.

Other options for help with gambling-related disorders are the US government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) or what help your state provides if you are looking for more specialized and regional assistance.

US Casinos Summary

Whether you want a resort with luxury suites and views of the Strip or just another roadside attraction with some stuffed animals, a dusty diorama or two, and a couple of slot machines in the back, the breathtaking thing about US casinos is their sheer variation.

Want to catch Celine Dion and have dinner at a three-star Michelin restaurant? Done. Want to knock back some Hooter wings while you play $1 blackjack? Heck, you can do both of those things within just a few blocks of each other in Las Vegas.

And now, with online casinos contributing to the variety and each state taking its own approach to operating those online casinos, you may soon have an endless choice of gaming options in your pocket as well.

Casinos Near Me FAQ

We know you still have lots of questions. Some like "The closest casino to me?" or "Gambling near me?" you are going to have to sort out for yourself with Google. Questions about baccarat, roulette, or blackjack fall a bit outside the scope of this article. But if you want to know where casinos are legal, the excitement of land-based casinos, the thrill of online casinos, or even how much you can win playing those slots, then keep reading.

Is an online casino better than a land-based casino?

There is undoubtedly a time and a place for both. If you don't have time to drive out to a land-based casino, or perhaps you just want to play for a few minutes, or maybe you only have a very limited budget, you'd be wise to play with an online casino. If you're craving some social interaction, a night out with friends, and the need to see and be seen, then take the time and head over to the land-based casino.

What are the best casinos near me?

The list above can get you started, but there are more than 1,000 casinos just in the US. The best casino will be the one you enjoy. Some swanky and sophisticated palace is great, but maybe you just want to spend some time down at the OTB, playing video poker and betting the ponies. Or perhaps you've got some dingy local spot with no hotel and just a hot dog stand for dining, but they always have a friendly staff member who knows your name and they give out lots of free play. Heck, head on over. We aren't going to judge.

Where are casinos legal?

Casinos have become such a valued form of entertainment over the past few decades that it is probably easier to talk about where they aren't. On the West Coast, Hawaii, Utah, and Alaska don't have casinos. On the East Coast, you might have to stick with charity gaming in Vermont or New Hampshire.

In the Southwest, Texas still has no casinos, and it remains one of the most populous states with almost zero gambling. In the Southeast, we still have states like Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee without any casinos. You can catch a boat in South Carolina, which technically only allows gambling 12 miles out, but we are going to count that since it only takes 20 minutes.

Just about anywhere else, you should be able to find some form of casino gambling, even if only on Tribal land.

How much can I win at land-based and online casinos?

The easiest way to win a small fortune at either a land-based casino or a casino on the internet is to start with a large one. But old jokes aside, you can win a lot. There have been at least a half dozen slot jackpots in Las Vegas between $20 and $40 million over the years, and these were won betting just a few bucks.

BETMGM paid out $6.5 million on a Fruit Blaster slot in August of 2024. And there are million-dollar jackpots hit on an online slot machine every month. Of course, the more you bet, the more you can win, and there is no real limit to what you might be able to do if you get on a hot streak and aren't afraid to bet it.

Who regulates land-based and online casinos?

All licensed and regulated casinos in the US will be overseen by a state or tribal gaming commission. This patchwork of laws can be confusing at times, as it seems not just every state but every sovereign Tribal gaming agency will have enacted different regulations and rules for their casinos. Still, it does ensure that other agencies can see what group of laws works best not only for regulating casinos but also for fostering continued growth and expansion of the market.
