As surf park mania continues to spread across the world, wave pools are popping up in all corners of the globe. From Europe to Asia to Australia to South America, and beyond. But one domain – and a primary marketplace, one would imagine – has been somewhat behind the full steam ahead nature of the synthetic surfing train. At least, for now…

Currently, the US of A has five open and operating wave pools, of the modern surf park boom, regularly pumping out waves to previously surf-starved regions. But a new one is on the horizon.

Today, American Wave Machines announced their newest venture, PerfectSwell Zion, coming to Utah in Q1 of 2027. And not only will this pool be a first for the beehive state, it will be AWM’s biggest yet.

For more on the new pool, here’s from the announcement:

“Capping four years of in-house R&D, the project will feature Generation 6 PerfectSwell® surf technology bringing bigger, better waves, improved efficiency, cutting-edge sustainability features, and AWM's most innovative wave package yet. Gen 6 features optimization diagnostics utilizing historic and real time data, innovative health monitoring, maintenance schedules, and a thermal design system for air and water temperature management. Further improvements in pneumatics have resulted in measurable increases in wave generating efficiency. In terms of design, natural and permanent elements will be utilized for energy dissipation in the water minimizing the use of fabricated materials.”

In addition to the pool, PerfectSwell Zion will feature – as many wave pool developments do these days – a luxury housing component with “beachfront” townhouses. Zion Shores, the joint is dubbed.

Although some in the local community have cited concerns over water usage from the wave pool, the folks from PerfectSwell maintain: “For the surf and aquatics recreation, the project will upcycle brackish water - unfit for drinking or farming - conserving fresh water and reducing waste.”

Stay tuned; PerfectSwell Zion coming 2027.
