The NFL is tapping into Caitlin Clark and Serena Williams as resources in its continued quest to grow the game of flag football.
The league has promoted flag football extensively over the last few years, with the sport gaining entry into the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. According to Front Office Sports, Clark and Williams will travel to the league's annual owners meetings in Palm Beach, Florida next week to participate in a panel discussion on women's sports and the league's commitment to flag football.
Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and Broncos co-owner Mellody Hobson will also be involved.
“Flag football is a high priority of ours. It’s an opportunity for young women to participate in our game … and as we look forward, there definitely seems to be an appetite and interest in a professional flag league for both men and women,” NFL EVP Jeff Miller said in response to a Front Office Sports question during a conference call this week. “So it’s a continuation of the growth in women’s sports, and the role that the NFL can play in it.”
In terms of women's sports, Williams is the undisputed tennis GOAT and perhaps the greatest women's athlete of all-time in any sport. She's also a part-owner of the Miami Dolphins.
Clark, meanwhile, has been a transcendent star in college and the WNBA, helping to set ratings and attendance records at both levels. A devout Kansas City Chiefs fan, she's also expressed some interest in NFL ownership down the road.
In addition to helping flag football become a sanctioned Olympic sport, the NFL has emphasized youth participation from boys and girls.
A professional flag football league is also reportedly in the works.
