Iga Swiatek cruises to third consecutive French Open title

Iga Swiatek steamrolled to a third consecutive and fourth overall French Open title on Saturday, beating Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1.

Swiatek is the first woman since Justine Henin (2005-07) to win three championships in a row at Roland-Garros.

Her four French Open titles since 2020 are also tied with Henin for the most in a five-year span since World War II.

Swiatek has been dominant during her run, only dropping three sets since the start of the 2022 French Open.

She closed out her 2024 championship by forcing a backhand error against Paolini, one of 21 forced errors by the Italian, who was making her debut in a grand slam final.

Per Infosys, Swiatek won 61 percent of her receiving points and converted five of her nine break points in the match.

The 23-year-old has quickly become her generation's best clay court player. With her French Open win, she improved to 20-1 on clay this season and 149-22 overall.

The WTA's No. 1 player will try to expand her reign to the grass courts at Wimbledon next, where her previous best finish was in the quarterfinals in 2023.

Historically, Swiatek's struggled the most on grass, recording a career 22-9 record.

Regardless of what happens the rest of the year, it would be shocking if Swiatek wasn't in a position to win a fourth consecutive French Open title in 2025.

If so, she'd become the first woman in over 100 years to do so, joining Suzanne Lenglen (1920-23).
