While many fans of video games have their eye on the Nintendo Switch 2’s release in June, we can’t ignore the great-looking titles coming out in May. From new entries in beloved series to intriguing original games, May looks like it will be a great month for video games. Let’s have a look at five of the May 2025 video games that have gamers excited.

1. DOOM: The Dark Ages

The anticipated prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal looks to be full of the fast-paced, bloody action that the series is known for. The official site promises “an epic cinematic story worthy of the DOOM Slayer’s legend,” and indeed, the trailer looks like the game will be packed with epic confrontations with demons and other hellish monsters. The game will feature new weapons like “the viciously powerful Shield Saw” and an expansive world to fight through. It will be released on May 15 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

2. Elden Ring Nightreign

Fans of 2022’s hit Elden Ring can finally play a new game in the Elden Ring universe. While fans did get new DLC content in the form of last year’s Shadow of the ErdtreeNightreign will be a completely new game. The game’s Steam page states that Nightreign is “crafted to offer players a new experience by reimagining the game’s core design.” Nightreign will feature three-player co-op play to take on various foes, which should add an extra dimension to the game. It releases May 29 on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.

3. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

The newest entry in the Fantasy Life series is sure to excite both fans of the series and newcomers. It features a time-travel story and a large open world, in addition to fourteen different “lives,” or jobs. The Steam page advertises “the largest continent in the series,” which should make for hours of exploration and customization. If you enjoy cozy games and RPGs with cute visual styles, you should check out this game. It comes out May 21 on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.

4. Lost Soul Aside

This intriguing action RPG involves a story of saving your sister (and of course, the whole world) from “mysterious dimensional invaders from beyond the starlit skies,” according to the game’s Steam page. The graphics look colorful and immensely detailed, and the trailers showcase an interesting story where your sister seems to be having premonitions of the world’s downfall before her soul is taken. You’ll be able to travel across dimensions and customize your skills for “high-octane, dynamic combat.” The game comes out May 30 on PC and PlayStation 5.

5. Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall

2020’s Yes, Your Grace stood out in the world of indie video games for its complex, open-ended gameplay, where you must manage a kingdom and try to keep your citizens happy. The upcoming sequel, Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall, will feature more detailed graphics and a continuation of the royal family’s struggles after the king from the previous game is murdered.  As with the previous game, you will have to think through every decision and make sacrifices to help your kingdom succeed. It comes out May 8 on PC, with Xbox and Switch releases to be determined at a later date.

Conclusion

There will obviously be far more than five video games coming out in May. Some other notable releases include the remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny on May 23 and the May 30 release of the Switch game, Disney Illusion Island Starring Mickey & Friends, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. While we wait for the Nintendo Switch 2’s release, there will be plenty of games to keep us busy.
