Expectations among players for romance options in CRPGs are high after Baldur’s Gate 3 lets you shag anything that moves, but not every setting lends itself to such free-spirited love. In the grimdark world of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, romance and love are almost strange to think about – everyone’s kind of busy surviving Drukhari raids and Chaos uprisings while being loyal to a theocratic and fascist state with conservative social values.

Nevertheless, Owlcat Games found a way of incorporating romance into Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, giving players the option to date companions and build a romantic relationship with them. Don’t expect this system to have the same depth and detail as the one in Baldur’s Gate 3, of course.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader romance options.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader – which companions can you romance?

You can’t romance all characters in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and some of them will only be open for romance under a specific gender constellation.

Check out the Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader romance options below before losing your heart to someone who won’t look at you the same way – really, the world is dark enough as it is.

Companions you can romance in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

  • Cassia – only as male Rogue Trader
  • Heinrix – only as female Rogue Trader
  • Jae – as both male and female Rogue Trader
  • Yrliet – as both male and female Rogue Trader
  • Marazhai – as both male and female Rogue Trader

Cassia

Cassia is only interested in a relationship with a male character. After rescuing her during the “Secrets of the Navis Nobilite” quest, you should always treat her like a human being during a dialog with her – tell her she’s beautiful, reassure her that she isn’t a monster due to her looks and abilities, and so on.

Heinrix

Heinrix is part of the Inquisition, so he’s only open for a sanctioned male-female relationship. On the bright side, he’s not very hard to convince: You can start a romance with him during your first conversation with him in your office. He’s so easy since a marriage to a Rogue Trader would be a massive win for him. Make sure to choose Dogmatic options when Heinrix is around, since he won’t hitch his wagon to some heretic, no matter how powerful they are.

Jae

Jae is fairly uncomplicated – she’ll just agree to anything, regardless of gender. Of course, you will need to help her out on Footfall first and then take her onboard your voidship. Just be flirty and keep helping her out and she’ll gladly reciprocate your feelings.

Yrliet

Yrliet, being an Aeldari, is a complicated one. She’s okay with being with a male or female Rogue Trader, but she’s not the physical type – she’s just looking for a spiritual connection. That’s hard to establish with her, especially if you’re being pushy. Don’t flirt with Yrliet. You need to be proper and tactful, keep your distance, and complete her personal quest.

Marazhai

Marazhai is of the Drukhari and also doesn’t care about gender when it comes to intimacy. Naturally, you’ll need to get Marazhai aboard your ship alive first of all, which will get some opposition from other characters in your retinue. Once aboard, you need to show interest, understanding, and compassion with him, saving him from another incident that pops up. Following this event, assign him a hunting ground to use and then talk to him on the bridge once more to complete the associated quest. Afterwards, he’ll turn up in your personal quarters, where you can seal the deal.

Companions you can’t romance in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

  • Abelard – already has a family
  • Idira – is too jaded for love
  • Pasqal – thinks desires of the flesh are foolish as a Tech-Priest
  • Argenta – is basically married to the God Emperor as a Sister of Battle
  • Ulfar – sworn to be nothing but a warrior as a Space Marine

Abelard

Abelard already has four kids and, by his count, eleven grandchildren – and though he may deny it fervently, he totally had the hots for Theodora.

Idrila

Idira, let’s face it, has just way too many issues of her own dealing with the fact that she’s an unsanctioned Psyker. She’s not ready for anything outside of that.

Pasqal

Pasqal is a Tech-Priest and thus strives to get rid off as much of his humanity as he can, so he just sees romance as a foolish desire of the flesh.

Argenta

Argenta is a Sister of Battle, so essentially a nun married to her duty for the God Emperor – her heart has no room for romance.

Ulfar

Finally, Ulfar as a Space Marine is sworn to asceticism and duty, much like Argenta.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader – can you have multiple romances?

Yes, you can romance multiple characters at the same time in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. It’s very naughty, though, so do be careful and don’t enjoy yourself too much – Slaanesh may be waiting for exactly that.
