Destiny 2: Fatebringer God Roll

When Vault of Glass entered the raid rotation for Destiny 2, Fatebringer became a highly sought-after weapon. Over time, as the PvE and PvP sandboxes moved away from Hand Cannons, the pursuit of the fabled Hand Cannon waned. Unfortunately, this remains the case. Should Hand Cannons return in PvP, Fatebringer is high on the list for players to bring out of their vaults.

Fatebringer Overview

Fatebringer is an Adaptive Frame Hand Cannon with a Kinetic Affinity. The sound of this glorious Hand Cannon still rings in players’ ears. Its dominance lives in the player’s dreams (or nightmares for its victims). It is unlikely to see its return in PvE since most primaries need effective Area of Effect perks to make them viable. PvP is still an option if the meta returns. As with all Vault of Glass Weapons, Fatebringer has fourteen perks, seven in each column. The left column possesses Explosive Payload, Keep Away, Kinetic Tremors, Opening Shot, Osmosis, and Rewind Rounds. The right column has Elemental Honing, Eye of the Storm, Firefly, Frenzy, Magnificent Howl, Opening Shot, and Precision Instrument.

PvE God Roll

With the power creep in Destiny 2, primary weapons that do not have a high damage output or powerful Area of Effect damage drop down in tier lists. Fatebringer has neither and is, therefore, not the most attractive weapon. Explosive Payload is the clear favorite perk in the left column. The extra damage, Range, and stun utility place it above Kinetic Tremors. Kinetic Tremors performs better on weapons with a higher fire rate than Adaptive Frame Hand Cannons.

The left column presents a choice for players to make. The two options to consider are Frenzy and Firefly. For the most part, it comes down to player preference. Frenzy increases damage while also boosting Handling and Reload Speed as long as a player is in combat for a long duration. Firefly provides some extra Area of Effect damage, causing an explosion with precision final blows.

The best way to optimize the Fatebringer is by using a Barrel that increases Range, a Magazine to increase the number of bullets in a clip, and a Range Masterwork. The best options in this case are Smallbore, Appended Mag, and a Range Masterwork. Players can replace Smallbore with a Barrel that further increases Range, but it is not required.

  • Barrel: Smallbore
  • Magazine: Appended Mag
  • Masterwork: Range
  • Left Perk: Explosive Payload
  • Right Perk: Frenzy, Firefly

PvP God Roll

PvP perks for Fatebringer do not differ considerably from PvE, but there are some crucial differences. The left column perk keeps Explosive Payload but has the addition of Opening Shot. Explosive Payload has a flat curve in fights, while Opening Shot improves the beginning of an engagement but has a sizeable drop-off. The right column has a clear best-in slot, with Eye of Storm improving your Handling and Target Acquisition when you are low.

Range becomes the predominant stat to focus on for PvP. As a result, Hammer-Forged Rifling, Accurized Rounds, and a Range Masterwork significantly improve its capabilities. The further away you can deal maximum damage, the higher the chance you will have to secure final blows.

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Masterwork: Range
  • Left Perk: Explosive Payload, Opening Shot
  • Right Perk: Eye of the Storm

Attaining Fatebringer

Fatebringer drops in the Vault of Glass raid, specifically from the Templar and the Gatekeeper Encounter. Players can, as always, pick up the quest from Suraya Hawthorne to acquire a guaranteed crafting pattern for Fatebringer. The Master Challenge, which drops the Adept Fatebringer, is the Templar Challenge. It remains the quickest and easiest challenge in the raid, so players should dive in head first to get those Adepts this week!
