Diablo Teases Surprising New Collaboration With Berserk

Diablo is one of the most successful action dungeon crawlers in the genre. Developer Blizzard launched the original in 1996 and has been a stable part of gaming culture ever since. The series has carved a niche in the gaming community with four mainline entries plus several expansions and spin-offs. One thing that has not been part of their legacy, however, is an external collaboration, at least until now. Blizzard is set for its biggest game to do its first-ever collaboration, and the lucky partner is Berserk.

Diablo Breaking Tradition With First Ever External Collaboration

Diablo has a long history of sticking to its own properties and not doing external collaborations or crossovers. In their 2025 roadmap, the ARPG revealed many upcoming changes and teased two different partnerships yet to be announced, so evidently, that stance changed.

Blizzard revealed the first of these two crossovers on Thursday, April 17, a collaboration with the famous anime series, Berserk. Berserk is a dark anime that has been used as inspiration in many other pieces of pop culture media. The partnership will be coming to both Diablo IV and Diablo Immortal. A thirty-second trailer released on Diablo’s official social media pages depicts an anime-style game with clear franchise-defining mechanical elements.

Blizzard did not give many details about the game, but there are some interesting things from the trailer to highlight. For one, the clip shows a barbarian from the Diablo franchise wielding a large, two-handed sword. The clip highlights the full anime/manga art aesthetic. We are treated to the barbarian swatting away entire swarms of demons while wearing Guts’ armor, almost like they are gnats. As the clip closes, the barbarian lets out a roar. While this clip hardly gives us a deep understanding of the collaboration, it is certainly impactful enough to make fans excited.

Not The First Collaboration

This is not the first time that Berserk has collaborated, either. The popular manga has had two anime adaptations, three animated films, three individual video games, a book, and a trading card game of its own. Beyond that, they have collaborated with many other video game series before, most notably Dragon’s Dogma. Although Diablo has not done an external collaboration, they did partner with World of Warcraft in November 2024.

There is one thing fans should pay close attention to from the Diablo x Berserk trailer, however. In fine print, Blizzard has mentioned the use of “optional in-game purchase” and “random items”. While these are terms typically used in loot box and Gacha-type games, it is unclear whether these elements would go purely to the mobile game Diablo Immortal or be brought to Diablo IV as well. Also unclear is the date of the drop, though it would be assumed that the event would happen sometime in the upcoming season 8 release in May.

Final Thoughts

Fans know that more is on the horizon for Diablo, as the 2025 roadback references multiple IP collaborations, and a 2026 expansion drop, among other changes. This particular partnership with Bersek feels right, as the dark manga pairs perfectly with the dark theme of the franchise. The trailer gives us little to go on, but it captivates and makes fans excited for what is to come. However, they do justice to their first external collaboration and commit to the blend. Time will tell what the release actually pulls off.
