The Final Fantasy 14 Xbox beta date is almost here, but Square Enix is looking for a specific kind of MMO game player for this one – someone new to FF14. The beta only works with fresh player accounts, so if you were hoping to move your current account over to Xbox, well, you can’t.
We've outlined what to expect from the FF14 Xbox beta, including how to sign up and what you get access to.
The FF14 Xbox beta kicks off on Feb. 21, 2024 at roughly:
Square Enix doesn’t have an anticipated end date for the beta.
Square Enix said the full game will launch immediately after the beta ends, which is both very specific and not particularly helpful, since the beta has no end date. The studio said it plans to announce a full release date after conducting “thorough reviews” of the game’s performance on Xbox and issues that players encounter.
Square Enix said you may need to adjust some Xbox privacy settings to get FF14 running. If you’re having trouble, try these steps.
FF14’s beta is essentially the full free trial in test form. That means you can play through A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and almost all of Stormblood without paying anything. Some features, including PvP and free companies, are locked behind the full game, though.
Yes, the beta is free, and you can continue the free trial once the full game launches. If you want to shift to the paid experience, bear in mind that you’ll need to pay a monthly Final Fantasy 14 subscription and have an active Xbox Game Pass subscription.
All progress you make in the beta carries over to the full game, so you can pick up wherever you left off.
Anyone with a new Square Enix account can play FF14 on Xbox. Square Enix isn’t allowing existing accounts to log in, though, so if you’re an experienced player, you’ll either have to wait for the full release date or start a fresh account
Does Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox have crossplay?
The beta comes with everything in the free trial, and that also includes crossplay. Bear in mind that since the beta is the first time Final Fantasy 14 and its network features are working on Xbox, you may run into a few issues.
For now, Square Enix is only putting Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox Series X|S – not on Windows or Xbox PC.
Yes, Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox comes with full controller support, the same as the PlayStation version. You can customize your hotbars and tailor the layout in whatever way works best for you.
