Over the decades, we as gamers have experienced a plethora of amazing games, making us happy, sad, and even challenging our mental strength from figuring out puzzles, defeating gigantic monsters, zombies, exploring worlds that only video games can give us, and more. Some games like Psychonauts, for example, have stood the test of time for so long that we have been able to play for the first time, replay countless more times, and replay again with our kids. Many of those games have become classics that will always have a reserved spot in our gaming libraries. This year, the developers and fans of Psychonauts are now celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The History and Rundown of Psychonauts

Psychonauts is a platform game with an in-depth story plot, strong character usage, and a thought-provoking adventure that gamers are sure to enjoy. Psychonaut’s journey includes following another gifted character, Razputin (or Raz for short), who has run away from a circus in search of sneaking into a summer camp that allows him to be around others who are similar to himself. Raz has psychic abilities, which sounds like a good reason to escape and want to go to the camp, right?

Psychonauts made its debut in 2005 from the developers of Double Fine Productions on PlayStation 2, PC, and Xbox. Essentially, this game started as a classic with a retro-futuristic, abandoned style environment from the mind of Tim Schafer. Tim held on to his previous work during the development at the time, this idea that he had from the game Full Throttle. This is a great utilization of not letting ideas go to waste and trashing them just because they don’t work in one setting (in this case, one game).
