Although Assassin’s Creed games are beloved, the franchise is nearly twenty years old, meaning some games were made for outdated and discontinued systems. This isn’t a problem unique to the Creed franchise; many games face this issue, especially with franchises. When starting the series, people will want to revisit or play a game for the first time. This is where remakes and remasters come in handy. It allows games to be ported to new systems, looking better than ever. Here’s what we know about upcoming remasters of Assassin’s Creed games.
There have already been multiple remasters and remakes of Assassin’s Creed games, including Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, and Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection. These games were ported to all new systems like PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. These systems are far ahead of the ones these games were created for. Of course, remastered versions of the games were also released for PC.
Creed fans are passionate about remastering the older games simply because they want to be able to replay the franchise from the very beginning on their newer-age consoles. Some older Creed games were released on consoles that would be hard to find, let alone play on. At one point, it becomes more of an inconvenience than anything else. Even if you could see all of the original hardware, it would mean having a lot of outdated tech that you only have interest in playing one game on. Consumer convenience should port the games over to newer consoles.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently announced that multiple Assassin’s Creed games are slated for remasters. In a statement, he said, “Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are really rich.”
While he doesn’t specify which games will receive a remake or when these will be released, fans have their speculations. Some fans believe that Ubisoft will remake Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, a game over a decade old. Other fans desperately want the developers to remake the original Assassin’s Creed, as that is one of the few Creed games that is wildly inaccessible. It’s important to note that while these games are not widely available on consoles, they are available in PC game stores like Steam. However, the availability of the games doesn’t take away from how outdated they look or how they may play. It also alienates console gamers.
Remaking older Assassin’s Creed games can potentially bridge the gap between Ubisoft and its consumers. After alienating their core audience for so long with their decisions regarding the Creed franchise, it’s good to see them fulfilling long-standing fan requests. As long-time players continue speculating on which older games will get remakes and/or ports, we await the arrival of Assassins’ Creed: Shadows, hoping the game fulfills long-standing fan requests.
