The GOAT of League of Legends, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, has broken another record today. T1’s match against KT Rolster in the Telecom War marks his 1000th LCK Game. No other player has come close to achieving this feat in Korea. While he is not the same player he was in the early years, he has won Worlds twice in the past two years and was denied a third in 2022 by Deft’s DRX.
Faker holds almost every record there is to gain in the LCK. He has the most kills, the most assists, the most games played, the most LCK titles, and the list keeps going. Faker makes his 1000th LCK appearance, while the closest player to him is his rival, Deft, who sits on 835 games. The next player after that is BDD, with 766 games. Deft has retired, and BDD could retire soon. Because of this, another player achieving 1000 LCK games is unlikely. He is bound to break more records and set impossible-to-attain achievements in the future. His 1000 matches place him fifth among the most-played League Champions in the LCK.
At this point, it feels like there is very little for Faker to achieve that he has not yet. He is nearing seven hundred wins and is aiming for his sixth World’s trophy. If he wins this year, Faker will win his third consecutive World title. He will achieve this alongside Oner, Gumayusi, and Keria. While T1 missed the first International Event of the year (First Stand), they should qualify for Worlds. But first, T1 must perform to reach the Mid-Season International.
League fans, players, analysts, and casters have been asking this question for a while now. Faker is the only person who knows the answer, but his retirement has to be on the horizon. While he was the reason T1 won the Grand Finals against Bilibili Gaming at Worlds 2024, the 2024 and 2023 Summer Splits are indicators that his form is declining and will likely continue. It might be better for him to retire before he declines too much.
