
It was reported on Thursday by ESPN's Shams Charania that USC commit Alijah Arenas was involved in a serious car crash and was placed into an induced coma. The five-star prospect is 18 years old and the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas.
"Five-star prospect and USC commit Alijah Arenas was involved in a serious car crash early Thursday morning, hospitalized and placed into an induced coma, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on X. "Arenas, 18, is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas."
After this heartbreaking news, the basketball world has been sending well wishes and prayers to Alijah Arenas and his family.
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese was among those in the basketball community to send well wishes to Arenas. In a post on X, Reese shared a heartfelt message that sent her prayers after this heartbreaking news.

Reese just completed her first WNBA season with the Sky, making the All-Star team and earning All-Rookie honors. As she and the basketball world await more information on Arenas, prayers and well wishes continue pouring in.
Per ESPN, Arenas committed to USC in January of this year. The Chatsworth High School standout is a 6-foot-6 shooting guard who projects to excel at the next level. His father, Gilbert Arenas, played 11 seasons in the NBA and made three All-Star teams.
Alijah Arenas played in the 2025 McDonald's All-American Game that Reese was in attendance for, and the two shared a moment together after the contest (via SportsCenter NEXT on TikTok).
