Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull had big news to share on Friday night — and she needed just one emoji to do it.
Hull announced her engagement to Will Matthiessen with a black-and-white photo on her Instagram story, flashing her ring with a simple emoji as the caption.
Matthiessen and Hull met as student-athletes at Stanford. Matthiessen played baseball and was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He spent time in the minor leagues before transitioning into a new career. According to his LinkedIn, he currently works as an analyst at Sapient Capital.
The engagement caps off a big year for Hull, who emerged as a key contributor alongside Caitlin Clark with the Fever. She also helped Rose Basketball Club to the inaugural Unrivaled 3x3 league championship in March.
Hull averaged 19.7 minutes and 5.5 points per game last season with the Fever, shooting a team-high 47.1% from beyond the arc. She credited playing alongside Clark for helping elevate her game.
“It's just keeping my hands ready. Keep cutting, keep running the floor,” she said. “I think that's what's so great about playing with really great point guards — you do the hard work and they make the shots easy.”
